What is the history of the military beret?
The history of the military use of the beret dates back to the 16th century, when decorative berets were part of the attire of the Landsknechts. In the modern military, the beret was introduced into formal uniforms in the late 19th century, when Alpine rifle units were formed in France. Berets appeared in the Polish army in 1919, when the soldiers of General Haller's "Blue Army" returned to the country.
