Present on the market since 1976, the American company ASP (Armament Systems and Procedures, Inc.) is the forerunner and now also the leader in the production of the highest quality telescopic baton-type batons. ASP batons have been used and highly valued for years by the US police, FBI and many other US government agencies, as well as by professionals in more than 80 other countries. Kevin Parsons' company has been so influential in popularizing telescopic batons that in many parts of the world the ASP brand name is considered synonymous with these self-defense tools.

A means of direct coercion such as telescopic batons can be divided into two basic groups, namely spring-loaded batons and rigid batons. Each has different advantages, so the choice should come down to consideration of the individual user's needs. With spring-loaded batons, there is no concern about causing exaggerated injuries, thanks to the increased flexibility. Rigid batons, on the other hand, can lead to greater damage and thus stop a more aggressive attacker.
