Scout mugs are vessels from which scouts can drink both hot and cold beverages during camps, bivouacs, or rallies. They usually have a handle that allows them to be held comfortably in the hand, even when the contents are hot.
Which scout mug to buy for a bivouac?
Choosing the right mug is an important matter for every scout. Below we present what to pay attention to when purchasing:
- Material – scout mugs are often metal, but plastic versions are also available. The best choice is usually a mug made of stainless steel because it is durable and resistant to damage.
- Handle – it is worth choosing a scout mug with a solid and well-attached handle, which allows for safe drinking of hot beverages. Ideally, the handle is foldable – then it is easier to pack the mug into a backpack.
- Capacity – the standard capacity is about 300–500 ml. This is enough to drink a beverage or, if necessary, pour soup into it.
- Weight and size – it is best to take a lightweight scout mug to camp that fits easily in a backpack and doesn’t weigh it down excessively.

Many of the mugs are made of stainless steel, allowing them to heat fluids even on an open flame. Some models are also equipped with foldable handles made of carabiners, enabling easy hanging of the mug on a backpack, belt, or bag.
