Kubotan is a short self-defense tool in the form of a baton. It was developed by Takayuki Kubota from whom the name of this self-defense accessory is derived. Takayuki Kubota also developed a way to fight using the kubotan. The advantages of this weapon include its small size, which translates into ease of carrying it with you on a daily basis. Kubotan will fit in a backpack or, for example, in a trouser pocket, but it is also worth noting the fact that it can successfully function as a key ring and not attract too much attention.

Cubotans come in a variety of forms and can be both keychains and, for example, imitate pens. The user in possession of such a pen cubotan carries an everyday item, which can additionally serve a defensive function. As a rule, the tactical pen is made of aluminum or, for example, titanium, since the solid casing makes it possible to use the object to strike and apply pressure to sensitive areas on the body of a potential attacker. A cubotan pen can be successfully used in the same way as a standard cubotan. As a rule, the casing is characterized by an ergonomic, notched shape, which allows for a much more secure grip.

Whether it's a standard kubotan made of durable plastic or a tactical pen made of aluminum, ultimately the user of such an item gains an effective tool for defense. However, there are still kubotan-shaped pepper gases, which undoubtedly expands the possibilities related to self-defense.
