Photochromic glasses are models whose lenses adapt to changing light conditions. Under the influence of UV radiation (e.g. sunlight), the lenses darken and become light again indoors or in lower light.

How do photochromic glasses work?

In low light conditions, photochromic pigments are arranged in a way that allows light to flow freely through the lenses. In this state, the lenses are transparent or slightly tinted. If the lenses are exposed to UV radiation, the photochromic pigments change their chemical structure. The energy of the radiation causes the atomic bonds to break and parts of the molecule to rotate, resulting in a darker lens color. The most popular colors are gray, brown and gray-green.

Is it worth buying photochromic glasses?

It is definitely worth buying photochromic glasses, they are very useful in many situations. A great option is, for example, photochromic glasses for cycling. In bright sunlight, the lenses automatically darken, providing UV protection and improving visual comfort, while in shaded areas, such as forests, they become lighter, providing optimal visibility without having to change glasses. They are also useful for drivers. They adapt to changing lighting conditions on the road, protecting against the blinding sun during the day, while providing adequate clarity in tunnels or in cloudy weather.
