The company started as Plymouth Iron Windmill Company in Plymouth, Michigan, and transitioned to airgun manufacturing almost by accident: when the company president first fired Clarence Hamilton's prototype air pistol, he exclaimed, "Boy, that's a Daisy!" — and the brand name was born. Clarence Hamilton designed the first BB gun in 1888 and pitched it to the windmill company as a supplementary product. In 1940, Daisy introduced the Red Ryder BB Gun — an iconic lever-action air rifle styled after a cowboy carbine — which went on to become one of the most beloved toys in American history.
