An evacuation backpack (otherwise known as an escape backpack) is a properly packed backpack or bag that should ensure our survival during an emergency, for at least 3 days (72 hours). An escape backpack should hold basic items such as food, water, clothing, personal hygiene products, medications and survival tools. A person with a well-equipped escape backpack should be self-sufficient in hard times. This backpack is also ideal for various types of hiking and hiking/survival trips.
The Escape Backpack has a lot of interesting features that will work in an emergency situation and beyond. This backpack is designed so that, when unfolded, it can be used as a sleeping mat, for example. Besides, evacuation backpacks have special handles located on the top, bottom and both sides of the backpack. This allows you to carry it comfortably. Evacuation backpacks are designed for use in harsh conditions and extreme situations. That is why they are most often made of 100% waterproof nylon. This is very important, because we can be sure that the equipment we need will not be damaged by rain. The evacuation backpacks also take care of comfort during movement. A specially adapted carrying system is responsible for comfortable carrying. It is equipped with contoured suspenders and a chest strap. Adequate stiffness and back ventilation are also provided.
An evacuation backpack usually has one large compartment equipped with several mesh pockets. They can be either zippered or Velcro-closed. Such differentiation will allow for better storage of various types of necessary items. The interior of escape backpacks are also usually equipped with straps with a trouser system. These straps can be helpful when we need to attach more equipment to our backpack. On the sides, as well as on the front of the backpack, there are usually additional pockets. It is also worth choosing a model with flat pockets on the front of the backpack, as they are great for storing smaller accessories (for example, a pocket knife). Meanwhile, the larger pockets located on the sides are ideal for storing bottles and thermoses.
It is best to prepare an escape backpack (BOB - bug out bag) before an emergency situation occurs, so that we can be ready to evacuate from our place of residence in about 15 minutes. What should we store in it so that the eventual re-packing does not take long? It's a good idea to include warm clothing (such as fleece or thermal underwear), a flashlight (good to make sure it's charged from time to time), long-term food (such as dried beef, freeze-dried food or military rations), as well as water purification products and a powerbank. It's also a good idea to stock up on protection and self-defense supplies, such as bang guns, pepper spray and a telescopic baton. It will also be useful to store in a specific place the items you will need in an emergency that you carry with you every day - documents, phone, keys. Remember not to overpack your escape backpack, pack only the truly essential items. A heavy load will slow you down and limit your ability, and during an emergency these capabilities can be crucial to your survival.
