Ka-Bar fixed blade hunting knives
Ka-Bar is an American company with a history of more than two decades. During this time it has gained worldwide recognition and the status of an American legend, producing knives for the military and hunting knives. The company's history dates back to 1897, but the breakthrough for the company came after the start of World War II. In 1942, the company made a bid to a United States Marine Corps unit for a knife for combat operations. The company hoped that it would be put into general use by these troops. In consultation and cooperation with the Marine Quartermaster Department, the design of an improved knife for Marine soldiers was prepared. This is how the famous KA-BAR Knife, Fighting Utility, was created. The knife became so popular and even famous that in 1952 the company decides to change its name to KA-BAR Knives, Inc. from the former Union Cutlery Company. The KA-BAR knife had a very good reputation among Marine infantry soldiers. Soldiers had full confidence in it due to its high quality and reliability. In 1976, production of this knife was resumed to honor the bicentennial of the Marine Infantry's service to the United States. To this day, Ka-Bar knives are the choice not only of Marine Infantry soldiers, but also of all adventurers, survivalists, outdoor enthusiasts, bushcraft or simply end up in the hands of people who collect knives.
The name Ka-Bar itself was registered as an official trademark back in 1923. There is a rather unusual story connected with it. Apparently, a package once arrived at the company's headquarters, in which there was a bear skin and a letter from a trapper or hunter from the state of Alaska. This trapper went hunting one day and came across a Kodiak bear - next to the polar bear, it is one of the largest living land predators. The bear rushed at the hunter, the hunter first wanted to grab a shotgun, but the shotgun turned out to be fierce, so in defense of his own life the only thing left was to grab a knife. The hunter managed to survive the fight precisely because of the knife he was carrying. In a letter to the owner of the company, he wrote that he owed his life to the quality of their knives. The story so inspired the owner that he began to brand his lines of knives for hunting or survival use with the KA-BAR designation, from "kill a bear"-to kill a bear.
Ka-Bar hunting knives with a fixed head often refer in style to other knives of this manufacturer. Many elements characteristic of this company appear. The heads of the knives are made of a single piece of steel. The characteristic handle of Ka-Bar hunting knives is made of compressed buffalo leather discs. The use of a steel hilt is to prevent your hand from accidentally slipping on the blade when you have wet or frozen hands. Classic, beautiful and stylish models of hunting knives made of steel, additionally polished to a high gloss for the best effect. Classic leather scabbards for carrying knives also appear in sets.
