Patrol caps are a type of field caps. Although they are now readily used by outdoor fans, they were originally used by the military. Patrol caps gained popularity among units of the US armed forces - U.S. Army Rangers already during the Korean War in the 20th century. Over time, they also became popular in the civilian sector.
