Boker Plus Kaizen G10 D2 folding knife - Black

Folding EDC knife characterized by very low weight. Combined with classic design, this makes it suitable as a so-called gentleman's knife. The model has a total length of 180 mm with a 77 mm long blade featuring a Straight Back profile, made of D2 tool steel, known for its high abrasion and chipping resistance. The blade has a flat grind and is finished with a satination method, giving it a semi-matte effect. The handle features a Liner Lock and scales made of black G10 laminate. The name Kaizen originates from Japanese and translates to a continuous strive for improvement.

Tool steel D2

The blade is made of D2 tool steel, valued for its high abrasion resistance and long-lasting sharpness. It is high-carbon steel with a high chromium content, forming numerous hard carbides, which results in great edge retention in demanding materials. D2 offers good blade stability, but its impact resistance is moderate, making it best suited for cutting rather than heavy prying.

blade with Straight Back profile, flat grind, satination

Blade with a Straight Back profile, characterized by a durable tip, easy sharpening, and good cutting parameters. The blade length is 77 mm and its thickness is 1.9 mm. The blade is ground with a flat grind (Flat Grind). The blade is finished with a satination method, which gives a semi-matte effect. The spine of the blade has jimping (serration), allowing for a firm thumb rest and increased blade control during cuts.

handle made of G10 laminate

The scales of the ergonomically shaped handle are made of G10 laminate, resistant to mechanical damage and external factors. An additional notch for the index finger prevents the hand from slipping onto the blade.

Liner Lock, spring clip

The knife is opened using a flipper, allowing for easy one-handed opening. This process is facilitated by the use of a steel ball bearing in the main axis of the knife. The blade is secured in the open position by a Liner Lock.

Convenient carrying is provided by a springy, steel deep-carry clip (tip-up, right carry) allowing easy attachment of the knife to a belt or pocket edge. Additionally, there is an eyelet at the end of the handle for attaching a lanyard.

D2 feature
D2
D2 is a high-carbon tool steel classified as semi-stainless, characterized by high wear resistance and the ability to maintain a thin, durable edge. It achieves a hardness of 57-62 HRC, which ensures long-lasting sharpness even with intensive use. Its chemical composition is a precisely selected combination of elements: carbon (1.4-1.6%), chromium (11-13%), molybdenum (up to 0.8%), vanadium (up to 1%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%). The high carbon and chromium content ensures hardness and wear resistance, while molybdenum and vanadium improve the strength and durability of the cutting edge. Although D2 steel is not completely stainless, its corrosion resistance is sufficient to meet the requirements of most conditions of use. It is widely used in the production of mid-range and high-end knives, including handmade knives and cutting tools.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

A small, sharp gentleman in an impressive case. Unfortunately, it doesn't open as smoothly as shown in YouTube videos. A plus for the key, which I partially used to unscrew the knife for lubrication. It folds open well with a fingernail, but with a finger it's a bit different. Applying a plaster to the fingertip helps; maybe it will loosen up over time.
