Higo Kyoso Folding Knife - Black/Stonewash

Folding knife structurally reminiscent of traditional Japanese Higonokami knives from the early 19th century. The minimalist form has been combined with a modern finish and a functional reverse tanto blade profile, making the model suitable for both everyday EDC use and basic outdoor tasks. The reverse tanto profile blade is made of 7Cr17 steel, while the steel handle is coated with a protective black coating.

Stainless steel 7Cr17

The knife blades are made from 7Cr17 stainless steel. The material used provides a good balance between edge durability, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening.

Reverse tanto profile blade, stonewash finish

The blade is 75 mm long and 2.7 mm thick, with a reverse tanto profile and features a flat grind extending to half the height of the blade, ensuring good cutting properties and facilitating precise work. The partially black blade is finished with stonewash technology, giving the surface a matte appearance. This finish effectively reduces the visibility of small scratches and signs of wear that appear during everyday knife use.

steel handle, lanyard hole

The handle is made from a single piece of stainless steel coated with a protective black layer. The slim profile allows the model to fit comfortably in a pocket and works well as a lightweight everyday carry knife. A lanyard or safety strap hole is located at the rear of the handle.

Friction Folder mechanism

The model uses a friction folder mechanism, a traditional solution without a classic spring lock. The blade is held in the open position through the mechanical resistance of the mechanism and a Chikiri lever situated on the blade's spine.

7Cr17MoV (7Cr17) feature
7Cr17MoV (7Cr17)
7Cr17MoV (7CR17) is a high-carbon stainless steel with high corrosion resistance, good hardness, and edge retention, used in utility, kitchen, and outdoor knives. It contains approximately 0.65-0.7% carbon, which is responsible for hardness, and approximately 16-17% chromium, which provides resistance to rust and oxidation. Vanadium (0.1-0.3%) refines the microstructure of the steel, increasing its strength and cutting edge durability, while manganese (0.4-0.8%) and silicon (up to 1%) support the hardening processes. Depending on the heat treatment used, the steel achieves a hardness of 56 to even 62 HRC. Vacuum or cryogenically hardened versions achieve higher hardness at the expense of slightly lower impact strength.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
