Cold Steel Counter Point XL folding knife AUS10A

Counter Point is a folding knife based on Counter Tac fixed blade knives. The blade with a Spear-Point profile and a false cutting edge on the spine is made of Japanese AUS10A stainless steel. The blade is satin-finished, and the modern steel used guarantees long-lasting sharpness. The black scales of the handle are made of durable Griv-Ex material

Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel

The blade is made of Japanese AUS-10A steel, which is characterized by durability, very good resistance to corrosion and abrasion. After hardening, it achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC.

Blade with Spear-Point profile, satin finish

The blade with a Spear-Point profile has a length of 152 mm and a thickness of 4 mm. The blade is finished with the satin method, which gives it a semi-matte texture that reduces light reflections and effectively hides signs of daily use. The design of the blade provides very good cutting performance, while maintaining adequate durability, allowing for more intensive use of the knife.

aluminum framework, Griv-Ex material scales

The handle framework consists of aluminum liners, to which black scales made of durable Griv-Ex material are attached. The holes in the handle are designed to reduce the weight of the knife, and the shape of the handle allows for secure work with the tool. There is a hole at the end for a safety lanyard.

Tri-Ad Lock, double-sided thumb stud

The blade in the open position is secured by the Tri-Ad Lock system, which is an improved version of the classic Back Lock and is considered one of the most durable locks in folding knives. The design is based on a stop pin that absorbs forces acting on the blade and transfers them to the handle body, minimizing mechanism wear. The system automatically compensates for natural wear, maintaining lock reliability. The blade features a double-sided thumb stud that allows for quick one-handed opening of the knife.

steel clip

Convenient everyday carrying is ensured by a spring steel clip that allows you to attach the knife to a belt or pocket edge. It can be screwed onto either the left or right side of the handle.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

A piece of a sharp beast. The only downside is the price.

Photos don't do justice to the size of this knife. For a folding knife, it's really big and also surprisingly light. It's difficult to unlock for folding, but it will probably loosen up over time, although this might also be an advantage. There's no way to unlock it accidentally while using it.

This big beast really makes an impression. Excellent cutting properties and very good steel. The long blade works great in the kitchen—you don't have to struggle when dividing large pieces of meat or slicing a big loaf of bread.

A solid, strong knife that cuts excellently. If someone is looking for a knife that performs well in tough conditions, this is the Counter Point XL. For me, it's a revelation. It's indispensable in the forest or at camp. It also doesn't take up much space in the pocket—I can still fit my wallet. Every day, the knife pleasantly surprises me with its capabilities.

A pleasant surprise. Very good penetration and surprisingly good cutting ability.

It sinks in very well and also cuts quite nicely, which is not always the case with knives of this style. Plus, a low price with good quality, as is typical of CS. 5/5.

Good quality, but the price is a bit too high for me.
