Bestech Knives Sledgehammer Folding Knife - Black

A folding knife with a total length of 182 mm, featuring a 76 mm tanto-style blade made of D2 tool steel, which offers high resistance to abrasion and chipping. The blade features a flat grind and a stonewash finish, which gives it a matte appearance. The handle incorporates a Liner Lock mechanism and black Micarta scales.

D2 tool steel

The blade is made of D2 tool steel, prized for its extremely high wear resistance and long-lasting sharpness. It is a high-carbon steel with a high chromium content, which allows it to form numerous hard carbides—this translates to excellent cutting edge durability when working with demanding materials. D2 offers good blade stability, but its toughness is moderate, so it works best for cutting rather than heavy prying.

blade with tanto profile, flat grind, PVD coating

The blade features a Tanto profile, designed for maximum tip strength and effective penetration of hard materials. The distinctive, sharp transition between the cutting edge and the tip creates a second cutting point, enhancing precision cutting performance. The thickened tip profile significantly reduces the risk of damage during intensive use. This profile is particularly effective in tactical and EDC applications, where a combination of high piercing capability and optimal blade control is required. The blade spine features jimping, providing secure thumb support.

The Sledgehammer model features a flat grind, characterized by good cutting performance, low resistance, and stability during the cut. A flat grind is used near the tip of the blade, ensuring increased resistance to damage. The cutting edge is curved along its entire length, which increases cutting efficiency. The blade has been finished using the Stonewash method, which minimizes scratches.

handle with Micarta, spring clip

The scales of the ergonomically contoured handle are made of black micarta. An additional notch for the index finger prevents the hand from slipping onto the blade. The tip-up clip makes it easy to carry the knife, allowing it to be attached to a belt, the edge of a pocket, or other gear.

thumb stud, Liner Lock

The blade features a thumb stud accessible from both sides, allowing the knife to be easily opened with either the right or left hand. This process has been streamlined by the use of a ceramic ball bearing in the knife’s main pivot. When open, the blade is secured by a Liner Lock.

D2 feature
D2
D2 is a high-carbon tool steel classified as semi-stainless, characterized by high wear resistance and the ability to maintain a thin, durable edge. It achieves a hardness of 57-62 HRC, which ensures long-lasting sharpness even with intensive use. Its chemical composition is a precisely selected combination of elements: carbon (1.4-1.6%), chromium (11-13%), molybdenum (up to 0.8%), vanadium (up to 1%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%). The high carbon and chromium content ensures hardness and wear resistance, while molybdenum and vanadium improve the strength and durability of the cutting edge. Although D2 steel is not completely stainless, its corrosion resistance is sufficient to meet the requirements of most conditions of use. It is widely used in the production of mid-range and high-end knives, including handmade knives and cutting tools.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
Micarta feature
Micarta
Micarta is a composite material made of layers of fabric (including canvas, linen, and paper) soaked in resin and pressed under high pressure and temperature. It is characterized by high mechanical strength, resistance to impact, abrasion, and changing weather conditions, as well as dimensional stability, which makes it ideal for knife handles. The surface of Micarta provides a secure grip and can be finished smooth or left with a slight texture to improve control over the tool. The material does not conduct heat or electricity, tolerates contact with moisture well, and acquires a characteristic patina over time, emphasizing the individual style of the knife. Thanks to its combination of durability, environmental resistance, and unique appearance, Micarta is widely used in EDC, outdoor, and collector's knives.

The knife is very well made, it opens and closes very smoothly. The material from which the handle is made is a bit slippery, but it sits well in the hand. One star less because it could have been a bit sharper from the factory.

A pleasant folder with a super sturdy tip, perfect for fans of poking and prying. Decent materials for a small amount of money. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
