A great read about the lives of soldiers on a mission in Afghanistan. I recommend it.
Afghanistan remains a land without peace: from the British-Afghan conflicts of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, through the violent Soviet invasion in the 1970s and 1980s, up to more than a decade of fierce confrontation between Islamic militants and North Atlantic Treaty Organization forces. Following the events of September 11, 2001, as the world waged war against terrorism, the NATO military presence in the Middle East became inevitable.
Lieutenant Colonel Grzegorz Kaliciak was deployed to Afghanistan for a six-month stabilization mission, a decade after the attacks on the World Trade Center, serving as the commander of a base established under the International Security Assistance Force. Throughout this period, he faced relentless assaults from the Taliban and the ongoing suspicion of local civilians. Polish troops operated directly in the heart of the conflict, engaged in intense and regular firefights that required not only advanced training and tough decisions but also considerable sacrifice. The general public remains largely unaware of the true scope of Polish military operations.
Afghanistan. Return Fire presents an unfiltered narrative of a mission in a region marred by constant strife, as well as an insightful look into the life and operations of the Polish army.

Great book by the hero from Karbala—it allows you to perfectly understand the situation of PKW Afghanistan soldiers. Other veterans helped write the book, so the perspective is broader than just G. Kaliciak's experiences as a commander.
