Cold Steel Laredo Bowie Knife 4034SS

Large fixed-blade knife designed with a Bowie profile. Features a broad blade executed in a full flat grind and enhanced with a satin finish. Crafted from 4034SS stainless steel, renowned for its high resistance to corrosion and straightforward sharpening. Equipped with a black Micarta handle for durability and a firm grip. Comes complete with a Secure-Ex sheath, incorporating multiple holes and grommets for versatile, multi-position attachment to belts or gear.

4034SS stainless steel

Forged from premium-grade 4034SS stainless steel, the blade stands out for its exceptional resistance to corrosion and oxidation, coupled with notable flexibility. Once hardened, this steel attains a moderate hardness between 54-57 HRC, providing both durable performance and straightforward sharpening of the blade edge.

Bowie profile blade, satin finish

The Bowie-style blade measures 267 mm in length and 8 mm in thickness. Featuring a smooth, full flat ground edge, the blade’s surface is treated with the satining technique, which creates an even, linear pattern that minimizes reflections and helps conceal minor scratches from regular use. Near the tip, the blade spine is sharpened, allowing for effective back cuts and substantially enhancing the knife’s piercing capabilities. The cutting edge is crafted with exceptional precision and features a slight curve to optimize performance during slicing, chopping, and cutting tasks.

Micarta handle, steel cross guard

The handle is crafted from black Micarta utilizing linen fabric for its construction. Ergonomic contouring ensures an excellent fit in the hand, delivering a firm and secure grip during use. The material stands out for its exceptional resistance to mechanical damage and adverse weather. A double-sided steel cross guard offers reliable protection, effectively preventing the hand from slipping onto the blade.

Secure-Ex sheath

Constructed from material highly resistant to external conditions, the sheath utilizes the Secure-Ex system. Secure knife retention is achieved through a fitted inlet and a snap-fastened loop, significantly minimizing the risk of accidental loss. The loop offers convenient belt attachment, while multiple holes and grommets enable multi-position mounting on a variety of gear options.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
4034SS feature
4034SS
4034SS - an alternative designation for Krupp 4034 steel, also known as X46Cr13 or 1.4034, is a German martensitic stainless steel developed by ThyssenKrupp. The carbon content of 0.46% ensures moderate hardness, while chromium (13%) guarantees high resistance to corrosion and oxidation. The steel also has good hardenability and structural stability thanks to the addition of manganese (approx. 1%) and silicon (approx. 1%). After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 54-57 HRC, which ensures a durable but easy-to-resharpen edge. Thanks to its combination of corrosion resistance, easy maintenance, and good elasticity, 4034SS is a popular choice for the production of everyday carry (EDC) knives, hunting and kitchen knives, and tools.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Micarta feature
Micarta
Micarta is a composite material made of layers of fabric (including canvas, linen, and paper) soaked in resin and pressed under high pressure and temperature. It is characterized by high mechanical strength, resistance to impact, abrasion, and changing weather conditions, as well as dimensional stability, which makes it ideal for knife handles. The surface of Micarta provides a secure grip and can be finished smooth or left with a slight texture to improve control over the tool. The material does not conduct heat or electricity, tolerates contact with moisture well, and acquires a characteristic patina over time, emphasizing the individual style of the knife. Thanks to its combination of durability, environmental resistance, and unique appearance, Micarta is widely used in EDC, outdoor, and collector's knives.
