Cold Steel Magnum Tanto XII CPM 3V Knife

Featuring a fixed blade with a 304mm length and Tanto shape, this knife is crafted from highly durable and impact-resistant CPM 3V powdered steel. The handle, constructed from Kray-Ex material, boasts a secure, non-slip texture for optimal grip. Included in the set is a sheath utilizing the Secure-Ex system, equipped with holes and slots for multi-positional mounting on belts or equipment. Engineered for the most demanding users, the knife is produced with meticulous attention to detail and premium-grade materials available on the market.

CPM 3V powder steel

Forged from CPM 3V steel using advanced powder metallurgy, the knife blade boasts exceptional strength and impact resistance. Offering wear resistance on par with high-speed tool steels found in drills and milling tools, CPM 3V ensures longevity in demanding conditions. Although not a stainless steel, it provides satisfactory corrosion resistance with proper maintenance. The blade reaches a hardness of 58-61 HRC after heat treatment, delivering a balance of resilience, toughness, and straightforward sharpening.

Tanto blade profile

Equipped with a blade featuring a Tanto profile, 304 mm in length and 5 mm thick, the knife offers exceptional performance. The blade’s smooth surface is enhanced by a gentle hollow grind, delivering outstanding cutting efficiency. A robust blade tip enables reliable penetration of even the most demanding materials, while retaining the sharpness required for detailed work. The curved edge running along the blade maximizes effectiveness for chopping, cutting, and slicing tasks.

Kray-Ex handle

The handle is constructed from Kray-Ex material, offering high resistance to mechanical wear and environmental influences. A textured, non-slip surface guarantees a secure and reliable grip in all conditions. The double-sided cross guard effectively shields the hand, preventing accidental contact with the blade. At the end of the handle, a robust steel pommel features a lanyard hole, allowing the attachment of a safety cord.

Secure-Ex sheath

The sheath utilizes the Secure-Ex system, constructed from a material highly resistant to environmental factors. A fitted inlet along with a snap-fastened loop ensures the knife is held firmly in place, minimizing the risk of unwanted release. The loop allows for secure belt attachment, while multiple holes and slots provide options for multi-positional attachment to various gear components.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
CPM 3V feature
CPM 3V
CPM 3V is a premium powder tool steel produced by Crucible Industries, known for its high resistance to impact, fracture, and wear. It contains 0.8% carbon, 7.5% chromium, and additions of molybdenum (1.3%), vanadium (2.75%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%) additives, which improve wear resistance and structural stability. After heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, providing a balance between strength, durability, and ease of sharpening. Although CPM 3V is not stainless steel, it offers good corrosion resistance and is widely used in the manufacture of military, survival, and hunting knives. It is suitable for intensive use in harsh conditions, combining high wear resistance, better ductility, and longer edge retention compared to other tool steels.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
