Cold Steel Master Tanto II Knife CPM 3V

Engineered as a tactical knife, this model features a Full Tang construction, merging the advantages of both survival and combat knives. Equipped with a blade in a Tanto profile, it is crafted from CPM-3V powder steel, renowned for its exceptional resistance to wear. The blade showcases a satin finish. The handle, colored black, is produced from Kray‑Ex material and offers a non-slip texture for superior grip. Included in the set, a sheath utilizing the Secure‑Ex system ensures easy attachment to a belt or other load-bearing gear for convenient carry.

CPM-3V powder steel

Forged from CPM 3V powder steel, the blade offers notable corrosion resistance despite not being classified as stainless steel. Heat treatment elevates the blade to a hardness of 58-61 HRC, delivering an optimal combination of strength, durability, and sharpening convenience.

Satin-finished Tanto profile blade

Featuring a Tanto profile, the blade boasts a length of 152 mm and a thickness of 4.8 mm. A hollow grind provides a smooth cutting edge, while a reinforced tip—with the full thickness of the spine carried almost to the point—ensures exceptional strength. Engineered for durability, the knife excels in demanding conditions. A satin finish covers the blade, imparting a subtle, semi-matte look and minimizing reflections.

Kray-Ex grip with non-slip texture

The handle, finished in black, is crafted from Kray-Ex plastic and features deep texturing to deliver a secure hold, even when hands are wet or dirty. Built with a Full Tang construction, the tang runs the entire length of the handle and is just slightly narrower than the handle itself. A single-sided cross guard safeguards fingers from slipping onto the blade. At the end of the handle, an extended steel pommel provides functionality as a glass breaker or makeshift field tool. Additionally, a hole in the handle allows for the attachment of a safety cord or lanyard.

sheath in the Secure-Ex system

Included with the knife is a sheath utilizing the Secure-Ex system, crafted from lightweight and robust material that withstands demanding weather conditions. The sheath provides secure retention for the knife through a precisely contoured entry and a snap-fastened loop, minimizing the risk of accidental loss. Fitted with a loop for belt attachment, the sheath also features multiple holes and slots, offering versatile options for mounting on a belt or other equipment.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
CPM 3V feature
CPM 3V
CPM 3V is a premium powder tool steel produced by Crucible Industries, known for its high resistance to impact, fracture, and wear. It contains 0.8% carbon, 7.5% chromium, and additions of molybdenum (1.3%), vanadium (2.75%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%) additives, which improve wear resistance and structural stability. After heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, providing a balance between strength, durability, and ease of sharpening. Although CPM 3V is not stainless steel, it offers good corrosion resistance and is widely used in the manufacture of military, survival, and hunting knives. It is suitable for intensive use in harsh conditions, combining high wear resistance, better ductility, and longer edge retention compared to other tool steels.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

A solid blade, really a decent piece of steel, but the quality of the sheath absolutely doesn't match the rest.
