A compact fixed-blade knife featuring a robust Full Tang construction, part of the Mini Tac series, designed for everyday carry (EDC) as well as outdoor applications. The blade sports a Tanto profile and is crafted from high-quality, corrosion-resistant AUS-8A stainless steel. Durable black handle scales built from Griv-Ex material with an anti-slip surface deliver a firm and reliable grip. Forged from Japanese stainless steel AUS-8A, the blade delivers an optimal blend of corrosion resistance and edge retention. Expert heat treatment results in a hardness rating of 58-60 HRC.

Blade with Tanto profile

Equipped with a Tanto profile, the blade measures 95 mm in length and 2.5 mm in thickness. A smooth cutting edge is complemented by a flat grind, ensuring superior cutting performance and robust durability. Thanks to the Bead Blast finish, the blade sports a matte texture that reduces glare and improves resistance to scratches.

Full Tang construction, ergonomic grip with Griv-Ex

Featuring a Full Tang construction, the knife handle integrates the steel tang along the entire handle length for maximum durability and stability. The tang is outfitted with scales made from Griv-Ex material, a tough, fiberglass-reinforced composite. An anti-slip grip enhanced with pronounced finger grooves and jimping on the spine of the blade offers superior control of the knife, even in wet or dirty conditions. A small steel cross guard is also present to prevent the hand from slipping forward onto the blade.

Secure-Ex

Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.

AUS-8A

AUS-8A is a Japanese stainless steel, equivalent to 440B steel, characterized by a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (0.7-0.75%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13-14.5%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Vanadium additives (up to 0.26%) improve the homogeneity of the steel's crystal structure and increase the blade's resistance to abrasion. The steel also contains molybdenum (0.1-0.3%), manganese (0.5%), silicon (0.4-1%), and nickel (0.49%). After proper heat treatment, AUS-8 steel achieves a hardness of 58-60 HRC, making it a solid material with good cutting properties and durability. The steel is widely used in mid-range knives, mainly produced in Japan and Taiwan, such as the popular Ontario RAT 1.

Bead Blast

Bead Blast is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel with a stream of fine ceramic or glass beads under high pressure. It gives the surface a uniform matte, satin-gray appearance without any light reflections. The surface obtained in the sandblasting process is smooth and aesthetic, but due to micro-pores, it may be slightly more susceptible to wear and corrosion if the blade is not properly protected. Nevertheless, Bead Blast is valued for its simplicity, discretion, and masking properties, which is why it is used in EDC, outdoor, and military knives.

Griv-Ex

Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

I bought this small but razor-sharp knife as a second one, because it's worth having it with you so you don't have to remember to leave it in a different set of clothes (I personally don't usually hang it around my neck). It fits perfectly and safely in the hand and is very comfortable in various situations, even those not entirely foreseen, as long as a longer tool is not needed.
