Cold Steel Mini Trapper Folding Knife 8Cr13MoV - Jigged Bone

A folding EDC (Every Day Carry) knife inspired by traditional trapper designs, featuring a natural bone handle. Outfitted with dual blades in Clip-Point and Spey styles, crafted from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, known for its corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening.

8Cr13MoV stainless steel

Forged from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, the blades offer an excellent combination of edge retention, resistance to corrosion, and ease of sharpening. After proper heat treatment, they achieve a hardness level of 56-58 HRC.

Two blades

The model features two primary blades with Clip-Point and Spey profiles, enabling the user to select the optimal tool for each specific job. Both blades are designed with a plain edge for enhanced accuracy and comfort during use. A flat grind is applied to the blades, complemented by a polished finish that delivers a brilliant shine and offers additional resistance to environmental impacts. Nail nicks are integrated into the design to facilitate smooth blade deployment.

Natural bone handle

The handle scales are crafted from natural bone, featuring an anti-slip texture and are firmly attached to the frame using pins. Rounded metal bolsters at both ends of the handle provide additional structural reinforcement.

Nail nicks, Slip Joint mechanism

Easy one-handed opening is ensured by finger cutouts, while a slip joint mechanism secures the blades when deployed.

Main features

8Cr13MoV (8Cr13) feature
8Cr13MoV (8Cr13)
8Cr13MoV (8Cr13) is a Chinese stainless steel equivalent to Japanese AUS-8 steel. It offers a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (approximately 0.8%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Additions of molybdenum (0.3%), vanadium (up to 0.2%), manganese (0.5%), and silicon (0.4%) improve abrasion resistance and the stability of the steel structure. 8Cr13MoV is often used in the production of knives, including by companies such as Spyderco and Benchmade, which manufacture in China. After proper heat treatment, 8Cr13MoV steel achieves a hardness of 56-58 HRC, which makes it a material with good cutting properties, easy to sharpen, and relatively resistant to wear.

Quite a nice little pocket knife in the American style. Well made and pretty solid, so it should last quite a long time. It has its own unique vibe, which is sometimes hard to find in new knives.

A pocket knife in a very classic and elegant style. Similar to trapper models from the 19th century. Both blades perform well, the whole thing is nicely made and sharpened very well.

Classic and elegant pocket knife. The nail nicks for opening the blades are very convenient. The dyed bone handle looks great in person. I recommend it.
