Forged from Japanese AUS-8A steel, the blade offers long-lasting sharpness and can be easily resharpened in the field. A specialized heat treatment brings the blade to a hardness of 58-60 HRC, delivering excellent edge retention and rugged durability.

symmetrical Dagger blade, Stonewash finish

Dagger-shaped plain blade (dagger) with a length of 114 mm and a thickness of 5 mm features a symmetrical profile and is sharpened on both sides. The blade sports a finish achieved through the Stonewash process, resulting in a matte surface that minimizes light glare and enhances resistance to scratching.

Kray-Ex handle scales

The handle of the knife utilizes Kray-Ex material with pronounced texturing, providing a reliable and secure hold. Known for its excellent shock absorption, Kray-Ex effectively dampens vibration during impact or thrust maneuvers. Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.

AUS-8A
AUS-8A is a Japanese stainless steel, equivalent to 440B steel, characterized by a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (0.7-0.75%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13-14.5%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Vanadium additives (up to 0.26%) improve the homogeneity of the steel's crystal structure and increase the blade's resistance to abrasion. The steel also contains molybdenum (0.1-0.3%), manganese (0.5%), silicon (0.4-1%), and nickel (0.49%). After proper heat treatment, AUS-8 steel achieves a hardness of 58-60 HRC, making it a solid material with good cutting properties and durability. The steel is widely used in mid-range knives, mainly produced in Japan and Taiwan, such as the popular Ontario RAT 1.

Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.

    The knife is unfortunately not very sharp. The biggest downside is the sheath, which holds the knife ridiculously tightly, so when trying to pull the knife out a few times I either tore it off my belt or almost pulled my pants up to my chest. Terrible!

    It's quite hard to take out of the sheath. Other than that, it's incredible—I don't leave home without it. Sharp, although I still sharpened it further. Fits very well in the hand, and I have large hands.

    I rate it very highly, it sits perfectly in the hand, very intuitive grip. For me, the sheath is very good, you can attach it to a belt. The knife is supposedly dedicated to self-defense, but it's also quite good for opening packages, cutting cords, making holes in material, etc. For me, it's useful when climbing a steep slope, when there's nothing to grab and your legs lose grip. Just stick it firmly in the ground and it becomes a 'temporary handle' :) Besides that, it's very lightweight.

    The ideal push dagger, in my opinion, better than a karambit in some respects. You can cut with a forehand or a swing, and thrust—easily switching between the above. Large handle ensures a secure grip. INTERESTING FACT: For example, in the small Cold Steel Best Pal dagger, the flat side of the blade is flat :), in the Safemaker it is concave, which greatly affects the ease of cutting and sharpening—the cuts are slightly curved due to the shape. Japanese chisels are made similarly—thanks to the indentation, they cut superbly.
