Cold Steel Scottish Dirk Dagger

A dagger crafted in a style evocative of 17th-century Scottish bladed weaponry. Featuring an overall length of 467 mm, the blade is forged from 1055 carbon steel, a material prized for its outstanding impact resistance—ideal for large knives like this. A broad fuller runs along the center of the blade to decrease weight and enhance structural strength.

1055 carbon steel

Featuring a blade length of 330 mm and a thickness of 6.35 mm, the knife is constructed from 1055 carbon steel, offering high resistance to mechanical loads, exceptional impact toughness, and reliable crack resistance. Following appropriate hardening processes, the steel attains a hardness rating of 54-57 HRC, allowing for straightforward sharpening, though it is more prone to losing its edge. Routine maintenance is necessary to help guard the blade against corrosion.

decorated rosewood handle

The handle, measuring 137 mm in length, is crafted from rosewood sourced from Dalbergia Nigra. Renowned for its exceptional durability and density, this material ensures a robust grip. Steel pins are integrated as decorative elements along the handle, while the pommel, designed as a round disc, functions as a counterweight to the blade.

leather sheath

A finely crafted leather sheath is included in the set.

1055 feature
1055
1055 is a medium-carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.5-0.6%, characterized by a good combination of hardness, impact strength, and resilience. It is a steel with a simple chemical composition, containing mainly carbon and a small amount of manganese (0.6-0.9%), which improves the impact strength and hardenability of the material. Thanks to these properties, 1055 steel is widely used in the production of machetes, bushcraft knives, swords, and tools designed for heavier field work. After proper hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 54-57 HRC, which ensures high resistance to cracks and chipping, but at the same time makes it easy to sharpen. However, due to its relatively low abrasion resistance and susceptibility to rust, this steel does not retain its sharpness for long.

This is the most attractive so-called replica from Cold Steel that I own. Nice rosewood handle, fits very well in the hand. On the downside: the stain used to color the wood is of poor quality, it stains the hand, and minor damage reveals the light wood beneath the coloring. Ebony would be better than stained wood.
