I bought the 8 and the 9. The 8 fits better for .44 caliber - it goes deeper into the barrel, making it fit tighter and more stable, while the 9 is a bit looser. From the barrel crown to the 'mushroom' of the guide there is about 1 cm with the 8 and 1.5 cm with the 9. You can see the differences in the photo.

With a 9 mm cleaning rod and .44 caliber, practically only the tip of this guide goes into the barrel - the collar does not touch the crown. There is some protection, but I am not satisfied. For a larger caliber, it will surely do its job.
