The Big Brother Knife stands as an enlarged version of the legendary 1217 model, engineered by the American brand Ka-Bar in collaboration with S.E.I.G.E. (Strategic Edge Impact Global Enterprise). Developed for users with high demands, the knife provides enhanced length and advanced functionality, offering a dependable solution for those seeking a robust outdoor tool.

With a total length exceeding 35 cm, this formidable knife is crafted from a single piece of premium 1095 Cro-Van carbon steel, delivering outstanding blade toughness and reliability. Featuring a classic Bowie profile, the blade is equipped with a plain cutting edge complemented by top-side serrations, expanding its utility across a range of tasks. A black matte coating adds extra resistance to glare and corrosion, ensuring optimal performance even in the toughest field environments.

A sturdy steel cross guard increases user protection by effectively preventing the hand from sliding onto the blade. The handle, constructed from resilient Kraton G material, boasts a non-slip texture for a secure and comfortable grip, even in damp conditions.

Accompanying the knife is a traditional sheath made of black buffalo leather, providing both secure transport and reliable protection for the blade against damage and environmental influences.

Ka-Bar is a brand whose history dates back to the late 19th century, and which gained real fame during World War II, when the Fighting Utility model was officially adopted by the US Marine Corps. The durable and versatile knife quickly became legendary, proving itself both in combat and in the daily tasks of soldiers. The name Ka-Bar itself comes from the 1920s, when a trapper described in a letter how he managed to “kill a bear” with a Union Cutlery knife. In 1952, wanting to emphasize the power of this symbol, the company officially changed its name to Ka-Bar Knives Inc., and its products are still considered a model of reliability today. An important chapter in the brand's history is also its collaboration with Ethan Becker, which resulted in the Becker series, highly valued by users, combining practical solutions with a modern approach to knife design.

Big Brother is a knife that makes a huge impression – it's extremely nice looking, massive, and its appearance alone commands respect. Having such a powerful piece of steel on your belt definitely improves your sense of security during tougher outdoor trips. However, you need to be aware of its limitations. Due to its impressive size, the knife is rather clunky and not particularly suitable for precise camp tasks. What’s more, despite its dimensions, it’s not very good for batoning wood. For such tasks, something from the rugged Ka-Bar Becker series would be a much better choice. Visually, the classic leather on the handle and sheath looks beautiful, but I have serious concerns that under harsh conditions, it will quickly lose its quality and become limp. It's also worth noting that due to the sheath's design, this is gear dedicated to right-handed people. The lack of an option to change the clip or attachment makes drawing the knife with the left hand very uncomfortable (for example, when it's attached to the belt), because you pull it out blade up, which forces an unnatural wrist movement to rotate the handle in your hand. As a left-handed person, I have noticed this problem. It’s a beautiful, intimidating knife that requires compromises in terms of pure practicality. As a gift for someone close, it's a 10/10; for a field trip, I suggest choosing something else.

Second year owning this beast. The leather sheath is beautiful and fragrant, but it would be very nice if the manufacturer included a second one made of plastic—the leather does show signs of use: small cuts, dents, scuffs, and delamination at the place where it attaches to the belt, though it's still functional. The knife itself is fantastic—it chops wood better than some axes. For most camping and survival uses it's too big, though—this is a knife designed for combat, and when buying it, you need to be aware that for regular camping, a smaller, more universal knife would be handier. The grip is so non-slip that the user is more likely to literally rub the skin off their hand before the knife slips out—and I’m not joking, the abrasions hurt badly. For very intensive use, it’s best to wear gloves. Although the manufacturer claims the knife requires special care during maintenance, my piece hasn’t rusted—even when I’ve forgotten to wipe it and oil it after use. The sheath probably provides some protection in itself.

At first glance, the knife makes a very good impression. I've been using it for a few weeks and can say that it is very sharp and solidly made. I am very pleased with the purchase. I recommend it—the price may be high, but it's worth it.
