A musket is an ancient firearm, loaded with a recoil (i.e. from the exit side of the barrel). Muskets were used from the beginning of the 16th century until the end of the 19th century, effectively replacing classical bows and crossbows. At the time, they offered much greater range and penetration power. Their handling also did not require great strength and years of training, as in the case of long English bows. They did, however, require regular maintenance due to accumulating carbon deposits and extreme precautions when loading and storing the black powder used to power the muskets.
A musket is a long, smooth-bore firearm of 13 to 25 millimeter caliber. It appeared on the battlefields at the beginning of the 16th century, mainly in the Spanish and Italian armies. In European armies, muskets were used until the end of the 18th century, while in the United States they were still used during the Civil War (1861-1865). At the turn of the century, of course, the design of the musket evolved, and solutions such as the introduction of a threaded barrel and rock locks not only significantly increased accuracy, but also the speed of reloading. However, the musket is valued mainly for its simple handling.
