In the Wilderness: The Cases of a City Trapper presents a series of entertaining stories chronicling the adventures of a nineteenth-century scholar venturing deep into the wild terrain of the northeastern American mountains.

The author deftly pulls at the reader’s emotions, lands blows to the senses, perplexes the intellect, and pokes with searing, razor-sharp wit. Readers are led into the untamed expanse—amidst ferocious creatures, towering escarpments, shadow-laden forests—escorted by philosophical guides and shadowy counterfeiters concealed within the rocky hollows.

A nice book refreshing the survival techniques of our great-great-grandfathers. Not very useful in today's world, but still a fun read, mainly because of the observations of a man from that era.

Soon the bookshelf with books from the Old Wonderful World publishing house will be full. And once again I repeat: congratulations to Rufus for a job well done.

Of the whole series, this one is simply pleasant and sometimes funny. Great stories and anecdotes from which you can also take valuable knowledge.

The book gives an interesting perspective on 19th-century camping in the northeastern USA, but I must admit I expected to find a bit more on camping itself. It's a collection of anecdotes, written lightly and accessibly, but slightly overdone, which after a while began to tire me. Nevertheless, I recommend it.

Great book. It's a joy to read. The plot captivates. Rufus's translation is brilliant. I recommend it.

Written in wonderful language and wonderfully translated. We read it with my wife before bed and we can't get over the fact that what was true in the 19th century is still current today. This is our first book from the Old Wonderful World series, but probably not the last.

Interesting, but after reading Nessmuk it is a bit disappointing.

The book is written in a storytelling manner, with a lot of humor and references to the author's contemporary culture. The translation is brilliant. Highly recommended.

The book is a gift. What I can say is that it is printed in large font, which is definitely a plus.

It's not yet another boring guide; it's a collection of adventures of a Sunday trapper, just like many of us, only from 100 years ago. It's surprising how little we've changed. I recommend it—I read it in one go.
