Cold Steel AK-47 Field Knife CPM-3V

Rugged survival-tactical knife modeled after the classic bayonet style found on AK47 rifles, designed by Andrew Demko. Featuring a Full Tang construction for enhanced strength, the tang extends through the length of the handle, boosting overall durability. Outfitted with a Clip-Point blade crafted from CPM-3V steel, this knife offers exceptional resilience. The handle, made from G10 laminate, comes in a distinctive green color.

CPM-3V tool steel

Manufactured from CPM-3V tool steel and hardened to a Rockwell hardness of 59-61 HRC. Offering excellent wear resistance, this steel delivers enduring sharpness for demanding tasks.

flat grind, Stonewash finish

The Clip-Point blade measures 135 mm in length and 5 mm in thickness. Featuring a flat grind, the blade offers excellent slicing capabilities. Finished with a Stonewash treatment, the blade also includes deep jimping (notching) on the spine, enhancing cutting control. A cross guard further secures the hand, preventing it from slipping onto the blade.

glass-epoxy laminate G10, anti-slip texture

The model features a handle made up of two scales crafted from durable, lightweight G10 glass-epoxy laminate. Renowned for its resistance to both mechanical and chemical wear, the handle also incorporates an anti-slip texture for a secure grip. A hole at the end provides the option to attach a safety cord.

Secure-Ex sheath

A Secure-Ex sheath is included for practical transport and secure storage of the knife.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
CPM 3V feature
CPM 3V
CPM 3V is a premium powder tool steel produced by Crucible Industries, known for its high resistance to impact, fracture, and wear. It contains 0.8% carbon, 7.5% chromium, and additions of molybdenum (1.3%), vanadium (2.75%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%) additives, which improve wear resistance and structural stability. After heat treatment, it achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, providing a balance between strength, durability, and ease of sharpening. Although CPM 3V is not stainless steel, it offers good corrosion resistance and is widely used in the manufacture of military, survival, and hunting knives. It is suitable for intensive use in harsh conditions, combining high wear resistance, better ductility, and longer edge retention compared to other tool steels.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.

A very interesting project for Demko. Solidly made, very good steel for a knife intended for outdoor work. The sheath is flawless. I recommend trying out this model.
