Cold Steel Chaos Double Edge Dagger SK-5

Drawing inspiration from traditional combat knives deployed in both World Wars, this tactical knife features a dagger-profile blade crafted from SK-5 stainless steel. The handle scales are constructed from durable 6061 aluminum. Included with the knife is a sheath fabricated from Secure-Ex.

SK-5 carbon steel, Tuff-Ex coating

Featuring a dagger profile, the blade measures 191 mm in length with a thickness of 4.5 mm, forged from high-carbon SK-5 steel known for its exceptional resistance to cracks and chips. A black Tuff-Ex coating further boosts corrosion resistance while minimizing light reflection.

Handle made of aluminum, glass breaker made of 1055 spring steel

Featuring a distinctive D-shaped cross guard crafted from reinforced 6061 aluminum, the design guarantees a secure and comfortable hold, effectively preventing the hand from slipping onto the blade. Integrated into the handle’s end is a robust glass breaker fashioned from 1055 spring steel.

Secure-Ex system sheath

Featuring a robust Secure-Ex sheath, the set allows for easy attachment to a belt or gear for convenient carry.

Cold Steel is a renowned American brand of knives, machetes and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company has gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, which are appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It has also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which ensures high strength and wear resistance. Cold Steel has patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand cooperates with renowned knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

Tuff-Ex feature
Tuff-Ex
Tuff-Ex is a protective coating developed by Cold Steel, applied to knife blades to increase their durability and functionality. It gives a matte black finish and eliminates glare, which is important in tactical and survival applications. The coating effectively protects the steel from corrosion and other surface damage, extending the life of the tool. Tuff-Ex is highly abrasion resistant and retains its protective properties under heavy use. The coating is used on popular Cold Steel knife models such as the SRK and Recon Tanto, which are made of SK-5 steel.
Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
SK-5 feature
SK-5

SK-5 steel belongs to a series of Japanese tool steel (Steel Kuogu) with high carbon content and good wear resistance. It is equivalent to American 1080 steel and is also designated as SK-85. It contains about 0.8-0.9% carbon, which gives it high hardness and very good cutting properties. The addition of manganese (0.1-0.5%) improves hardenability, silicon (0.1-0.35%) increases elasticity and strength, and small amounts of chromium (about 0.3%) and copper (up to 0.025%) promote the steel's wear resistance and slow down degradation processes. The presence of nickel (up to 0.25%) further enhances strength, while low sulfur and phosphorus content reduces the material's brittleness. After quenching, SK-5 reaches a hardness of up to 63-65 HRC, and its martensitic structure with fine carbides provides a favorable combination of wear resistance and mechanical strength. Thanks to these properties, the steel is used in chisels, saws, springs, drills, and in utility and tactical knives.

1055 feature
1055
1055 is a medium-carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.5-0.6%, characterized by a good combination of hardness, impact strength, and resilience. It is a steel with a simple chemical composition, containing mainly carbon and a small amount of manganese (0.6-0.9%), which improves the impact strength and hardenability of the material. Thanks to these properties, 1055 steel is widely used in the production of machetes, bushcraft knives, swords, and tools designed for heavier field work. After proper hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 54-57 HRC, which ensures high resistance to cracks and chipping, but at the same time makes it easy to sharpen. However, due to its relatively low abrasion resistance and susceptibility to rust, this steel does not retain its sharpness for long.

Very solid. It's a bit uncomfortable to hold in the hand with only one finger guard. That's probably the only downside. I have no problem drawing it from the sheath with one hand.

A combination of a sword and a sabre. It makes an impression and is quite heavy. Probably not suitable for EDC...

A nice knife inspired by the M1918 trench knife – definitely for a collection, because even if you find a use for it, how are you supposed to carry it discreetly?

The knife is great in every way: appearance, workmanship, balance, size – a real machine. The sheath is not as good – the opening is tight, I spent two hours filing so that the knife could be taken out and inserted with one hand. The store, as always, deserves six stars.
