Cold Steel Drop Forged Survalist 52100 Fixed Blade Knife

Rugged outdoor knife crafted in the style of the renowned Recon Scout series. Forged from a single slab of 52100 steel, this blade is acclaimed for its remarkable strength and excellent resistance to chips. Outfitted with a Drop-Point style blade and a flat grind, the knife offers superior performance. The entire construction is finished with a teflon coating, delivering a matte surface. Equipped with a Secure-Ex sheath system for easy and reliable everyday carry.

high-carbon 52100 steel

Forged from high-carbon 52100 steel, the knife stands out for its impressive chip resistance and solid wear durability. As a non-stainless steel, it calls for diligent upkeep and protection of its surface. However, the blade’s exceptional cutting abilities and high wear resistance rank it among the premium choices in traditional carbon steel options.

Drop-Point profile blade with teflon coating

Equipped with a Drop-Point profile blade, the knife boasts a 203 mm length and 5 mm thickness. A smooth cutting surface and a high flat grind contribute to its outstanding cutting performance. For enhanced resistance to corrosion and to minimize glare, a gray teflon coating covers the entire knife.

steel handle

The steel handle is engineered to reduce the likelihood of the hand slipping onto the blade. Removable scales crafted from G10 laminate, featuring a coarse, non-slip surface, ensure a secure and stable grip under any conditions. A hole at the end of the handle allows for easy attachment of a lanyard or strap.

Secure-Ex system sheath

The knife is accompanied by a sheath in the Secure-Ex system, crafted from a lightweight, tough, and weather-resistant material. Thanks to its fitted inlet and snap-fastened loop, the sheath ensures the knife remains securely in place, preventing accidental drops. A loop provides reliable attachment to a belt, while an array of holes and slots enables versatile, multi-position mounting on belts or additional gear.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
52100 feature
52100
52100 is an American bearing steel with a carbon content of 0.98-1.1%, valued in cutlery for its strength, resistance to chipping, and ability to maintain sharpness. The chromium content (1.3-1.6%) improves abrasion resistance and aids the hardening process. It also contains manganese (0.25-0.45%) and silicon (0.15-0.35%), which increase the strength and elasticity of the steel. After proper hardening, the steel reaches a hardness of 62-64 HRC, making it an ideal material for the production of bushcraft, survival, and hunting knives. Although it is not stainless steel and requires proper maintenance and protective coatings, its cutting properties and wear resistance make it one of the best choices among traditional carbon steels.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Teflon (PTFE) feature
Teflon (PTFE)
Teflon coating (PTFE) is a thin polymer layer applied to knife blades, which gives them non-stick properties and reduces friction during cutting. This prevents food, resin, and other sticky materials from sticking to the surface, and cutting requires less effort. Teflon also protects carbon steel from corrosion and gives the blade a dark, matte finish with anti-reflective properties. The coating does not cover the cutting edge, which allows the knife to remain sharp, although it may become scratched and gradually wear out over time.

After a few years, I finally bought this knife as an 'end of the world' knife, for nuclear war, apocalypse, or something like that—hopefully never. This thing is a POWERHOUSE! Put it in your backpack and head outdoors!

The size and thickness didn’t suit me—this is a monster you need to try out before buying. You also need to find a use for this knife, unfortunately, I couldn’t find one.

Definitely yes, for 400 bucks you really get a piece of good steel, a strong and sharp knife, a comfortable handle, and also a good sheath.
