The knife arrived factory-sharpened very well, its weight makes you feel a solid piece of steel in your hand, and the rubberized handle makes it fit excellently in the palm.

Cold Steel Leatherneck Tanto D2 Military Knife
Inspired by the legendary US Marines combat knife, originally crafted by manufacturers like Ka-Bar, this model offers a fixed blade with a robust full tang construction, perfectly suited for tactical and survival scenarios. Outfitted with a Tanto blade, manufactured from D2 tool steel and finished with a black powder coating, the knife excels in durability and corrosion resistance. The handle, made from Kray-Ex, provides a secure and comfortable grip during rugged use. Included in the package is a sheath utilizing the Secure-Ex system and equipped with a belt loop, allowing for easy and reliable carry.
The term Leatherneck is derived from a traditional nickname for American Marines, referring to the high leather collar worn by soldiers since 1776.
D2 tool steel
Crafted from D2 tool steel, the blade delivers outstanding wear resistance and excellent edge retention. Through a precision heat treatment process, the steel attains a hardness of 57-62 HRC, providing long-lasting durability and reliable cutting performance, even during demanding use.
Tanto profile blade, Black Powder coating
Equipped with a Tanto style blade, the knife offers a 178 mm long and 5 mm thick blade profile. A smooth cutting edge is achieved through a partial flat grind, highlighted by a robust tip where the spine’s full thickness extends almost entirely to the apex. Engineered for exceptional toughness, the design enables efficient execution of heavy-duty tasks. Enhanced with a Black Powder finish, the blade resists scratches, provides protection against corrosion, and prevents unwanted reflections.
Full Tang construction, ergonomic grip with Kray-Ex
Featuring a Full Tang construction, the knife’s steel tang extends throughout the entire length of the handle for maximum durability and stability. The handle scales are attached to the tang and crafted from the synthetic polymer Kray-Ex. Due to its ergonomic shape and non-slip texture, the grip delivers excellent control even when hands are wet or dirty. A steel cross guard prevents the hand from sliding onto the blade, while the steel pommel at the handle’s end is designed for use as an auxiliary field tool.
sheath in the Secure-Ex system
The knife comes with a sheath crafted using the Secure-Ex system, featuring a material that is lightweight, robust, and resistant to various weather conditions. Knife retention is ensured by a precision-molded inlet and a snap-fastened loop, effectively preventing accidental release. The loop facilitates belt attachment, while several holes and loops allow for versatile carry positions on a belt or integration with other gear.

Excellent quality knife with a full tang, better than the Ka-Bar. If I had to choose between the two, I'd recommend the CS Leatherneck Tanto. The handle is for larger hands, the steel has a wide tang in the handle, while the KB has a narrow one. Still a knife, but it can compete with a small machete. The blade shape and finishing are first-class. After unpacking, it needs a bit of sharpening. I recommend it to others; it's a good knife.
-
The knife's craftsmanship is top-notch. The knife is well-balanced. Batoning branches is no problem at all. I recommend it.
-
Great knife, the additional flat edge at the end is very useful for everyday use as well as in the field. On top of that, it's very sharp—you can shave with it. I recommend it!
-
My favorite knife, brilliant craftsmanship and ergonomics. Very sharp.
-
I'm absolutely in love with this 'chopper'. Indestructible! I batoned logs with it the length of the blade. You can do wider too, with the help of wedges, which you can easily make with a few swings. I also used it as a chisel. D2 steel is a brilliant choice for this type of tool. With this knife and a good folding saw, you practically have all the basic tools for the forest. Of course, if you like and can appreciate the benefits of a tanto blade.
-
Super, fits well in the hand, nice sheath where the knife doesn't rattle around.
-
Legendary, excellent knife for the collection from the CS forge. Solidly made combat knife. Will handle natural conditions like a forest. The only downside is I had to sharpen it a bit, but that's just a matter of taste. I recommend it!
-
Great, large knife. Solid and sharp. I bought it as soon as it became available again. As I can see, rightly so, since it's sold out again.
-
Fits well in the hand, I recommend it.
-
Beautiful knife. Sturdy. Very nice handle, doesn't slip out of the hand. Good steel. For this price, a very good knife. This will be my favorite knife. I recommend it.
-
A chunk of steel. Full tang handle, better than Ka-Bar. Given the choice between the two, I recommend the CS Leatherneck Tanto. The grip is for bigger hands (wide steel tang in the handle, K-B has a narrow one). Still a knife, but bordering on a small machete. Blade shape and workmanship at the highest level. Needs a little sharpening right out of the box. It's worth moving the sheath clip (so it doesn't stick out from the belt so much). Beautiful knife.

The technical parameters of this knife are excellent, but for those looking for a knife that would perfectly serve as a versatile tool for long stays in the forest, in the mountains, or on the African savannah as in my case - this knife is not the best choice. If the Leatherneck Tanto were made like the Schrade SCHF1 or SCHF2 - from a single piece of steel - and had a compartment in the handle for basic survival accessories in a crisis situation, it would be THE IDEAL knife.

The knife arrived lubricated and sharp as a razor... I haven't tried it in the field yet, but the first impression is 5/5.
