Cold Steel Mackinac Hunter Folding Knife AUS-10A - Brown

Folding knife designed for EDC use and outdoor activities. The model combines a Clip-Point profile blade made of Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel with an ergonomic handle made of textured Micarta composite.

The use of high-quality materials and the Tri-Ad Lock lock made it possible to create a durable tool that ensures long service life, stable blade retention, and good control during use. The double-sided thumb stud makes it easy to quickly open the knife with the right or left hand, while the properly contoured handle increases grip confidence during everyday use and field tasks.

high-quality AUS-10A steel

The blade is made of high-quality Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel produced by Aichi Steel. The material contains approximately 0.95-1.1% carbon and 13-14.5% chromium, which ensures high hardness and resistance to corrosion and abrasion.

Alloying additions improve structural stability and mechanical properties, making AUS-10A steel well suited for utility knives intended for regular use.

clip-point blade profile, satin finish

The knife is equipped with a Clip-Point blade profile, a length of 91 mm and a plain cutting edge. Proper blade balance translates into better control of the knife. The weight is distributed evenly between the blade and the handle, which ensures greater cutting precision and reduces hand fatigue during prolonged use.

The blade surface is finished using the Satin finish. The process involves grinding the steel with fine-grit abrasive materials that leave parallel micro-scratches. They give the blade a matte, technical look and reduce the visibility of minor marks formed during use.

textured Micarta handle

The handle is made of contoured brown Micarta scales. The material is made from layers of fabric impregnated with resin and pressed under high pressure and at elevated temperature. This construction ensures resistance to abrasion, impacts and changing outdoor conditions.

The textured Micarta surface improves grip stability and reduces hand slippage during use. The ergonomic handle profile supports confident knife control and increases comfort during use.

double-sided thumb stud and Tri-Ad Lock

The blade features a double-sided thumb stud, which allows the knife to be opened quickly with either the right or left hand. The Tri-Ad Lock is responsible for keeping the blade in the working position. The system developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko is one of the most durable solutions used in folding knives.

The design uses an additional stop pin support pin. This element takes over part of the loads exerted on the blade and distributes them to the handle components, relieving the main locking mechanism. This solution reduces lock wear and lowers the risk of overload.

spring steel clip and lanyard hole

A steel clip is mounted on the handle, allowing convenient and secure carrying of the knife on a pocket or item of equipment. The spring construction keeps the tool in place and ensures quick access to it when needed.

At the rear of the handle there is a hole for a lanyard or retention cord, allowing the knife to be additionally attached to equipment and reducing the risk of losing it.

Cold Steel is a respected American brand of knives, machetes, and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which provides high durability and wear resistance. Cold Steel patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand works with respected knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Micarta feature
Micarta
Micarta is a composite material made of layers of fabric (including canvas, linen, and paper) soaked in resin and pressed under high pressure and temperature. It is characterized by high mechanical strength, resistance to impact, abrasion, and changing weather conditions, as well as dimensional stability, which makes it ideal for knife handles. The surface of Micarta provides a secure grip and can be finished smooth or left with a slight texture to improve control over the tool. The material does not conduct heat or electricity, tolerates contact with moisture well, and acquires a characteristic patina over time, emphasizing the individual style of the knife. Thanks to its combination of durability, environmental resistance, and unique appearance, Micarta is widely used in EDC, outdoor, and collector's knives.
