Cold Steel Marauder Serrated AUS-8A Fixed Blade Knife

The Marauder Bowie Knife draws its design inspiration from WWII-era combat knives utilized by Merrill’s Marauders, also known as Galahad, an elite American unit operating in the Southeast Asia theater.

Featuring a Bowie profile blade, the knife is made with a flat grind to deliver excellent cutting performance. The blade showcases a refined satin finish. Constructed from Japanese AUS-8A stainless steel, the blade stands out for its toughness and reliable edge retention. The black handle, produced from Kray-Ex material, ensures a secure, non-slip grip. Included is a Secure-Ex sheath, designed for convenient carry on a belt or attached to other gear.

Japanese AUS-8A steel

Forged from Japanese AUS-8A steel, the blade stands out for its toughness, as well as excellent resistance to both corrosion and wear. When subjected to hardening, the blade reaches a hardness of 58-60 HRC.

Bowie blade with satin finish

Designed with a robust Bowie profile, the blade measures 229 mm in length and 4.7 mm in thickness. Offering a sweeping cutting edge and a pronounced false blade, exceptional durability enables the Marauder to perform effortless slicing and piercing tasks. The addition of a serrated cutting edge makes it highly effective for severing ropes, nets, cables, and other fibrous substances. Manufactured with a flat grind and completed with a satin finish, the blade boasts a semi-matte surface that is resistant to scratches.

Kray-Ex handle, double-sided cross guard

Constructed from Kray-Ex material, the knife handle features aggressive texturing to guarantee a secure grip, even with wet or soiled hands. The double-sided cross guard is designed to keep fingers from sliding onto the blade, while the sub-hilt provides added security by protecting the index finger and enhancing control. A hole at the base of the handle is included for attaching a safety cord or lanyard.

Secure-Ex sheath, multiple mounting positions

The included sheath, part of the Secure-Ex system, is crafted from a material that is both lightweight and highly resistant to wear and weather conditions. Thanks to a precision-molded inlet and a snap-secured loop, the knife stays firmly in place, minimizing the risk of accidental loss. The loop is designed for convenient belt attachment, while multiple holes and eyelets allow for versatile, multi-positional mounting on a belt or various equipment.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
AUS-8A feature
AUS-8A
AUS-8A is a Japanese stainless steel, equivalent to 440B steel, characterized by a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (0.7-0.75%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13-14.5%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Vanadium additives (up to 0.26%) improve the homogeneity of the steel's crystal structure and increase the blade's resistance to abrasion. The steel also contains molybdenum (0.1-0.3%), manganese (0.5%), silicon (0.4-1%), and nickel (0.49%). After proper heat treatment, AUS-8 steel achieves a hardness of 58-60 HRC, making it a solid material with good cutting properties and durability. The steel is widely used in mid-range knives, mainly produced in Japan and Taiwan, such as the popular Ontario RAT 1.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

A pretty cool monster knife. Good for chopping and, if necessary, for stabbing too ;) Fits well in the hand, good idea with the stonewash finish. It looks ridiculous, but I really liked it.

A solid chopper and cuts well. Fits well in the hand. A good knife for heavier tasks in the forest. The sheath is of course solid, as always with Cold Steel. I recommend it for fans of large knives.

I was worried that the handle would be overcomplicated, but it's quite ergonomic. Sharp and edgy.

Nice, really large knife, very sharp. The sheath is secure - Ex holds it well. The guard is rubbery but doesn't get in the way. Worth recommending for use, collection, etc.
