Cold Steel Ranch Boss 2 Trail Wind SK-5 Folding Knife
Folding EDC Knife from the Ranch series stands out with a design inspired by traditional farmer’s knives. Outfitted with a clip-point blade crafted from high-carbon SK‑5 steel, renowned for its toughness and excellent edge retention. The handle, in a brown finish, features GFN plastic that mimics bone. Opening is achieved via a nail nick, while combined Slip Joint and Liner Lock mechanisms ensure secure usage.
Durable and easy to sharpen SK-5 steel
Forged from high-carbon SK-5 tool steel, the knife blade delivers exceptional durability, outstanding resistance to cracking, chipping, and dulling, and remains easy to sharpen. Undergoing thermal treatment, the blade achieves a hardness of 63-65 HRC, ensuring a robust structure with superior abrasion resistance and long-lasting performance.
Clip-Point profile blade, satin finish method
Equipped with a Clip-Point profile blade, the knife measures 101 mm in length and 3.5 mm in thickness. A smooth edge and full flat grind provide outstanding cutting capability. Finished using a satin technique, the blade boasts a semi-matte appearance that elevates both its visual appeal and resistance to scratches.
Ergonomic handle, hole for a safety cord
The ergonomically shaped handle consists of a stainless steel framework and scales made from plastic imitating bone, with a non-slip surface. It is equipped with a bolster and ends with a steel pommel. A hole placed at its end allows for threading a safety cord or lanyard.
Liner Lock mechanism
Once deployed, the blade is firmly secured in place by a dependable Liner Lock mechanism. Deployment of the knife is accomplished via a nail notch.
Leather sheath
A brown sheath crafted from durable, thick leather is provided, ensuring secure knife carry on a belt. The knife is protected from accidental drops by a snap-fastened flap.

SK-5 steel belongs to a series of Japanese tool steel (Steel Kuogu) with high carbon content and good wear resistance. It is equivalent to American 1080 steel and is also designated as SK-85. It contains about 0.8-0.9% carbon, which gives it high hardness and very good cutting properties. The addition of manganese (0.1-0.5%) improves hardenability, silicon (0.1-0.35%) increases elasticity and strength, and small amounts of chromium (about 0.3%) and copper (up to 0.025%) promote the steel's wear resistance and slow down degradation processes. The presence of nickel (up to 0.25%) further enhances strength, while low sulfur and phosphorus content reduces the material's brittleness. After quenching, SK-5 reaches a hardness of up to 63-65 HRC, and its martensitic structure with fine carbides provides a favorable combination of wear resistance and mechanical strength. Thanks to these properties, the steel is used in chisels, saws, springs, drills, and in utility and tactical knives.
GFN (Glass Filled Nylon) is a nylon reinforced with glass fiber, offering low weight, high durability, and resistance to moisture and many chemicals. The material performs exceptionally well in demanding conditions, maintaining its strength even under intensive use. GFN surfaces may be completely smooth or textured to improve grip, providing better control and overall ergonomics. The robustness of GFN handles has made this material a standard in the production of EDC (Everyday Carry) knives as well as lightweight tactical designs.

I really like it. Fits perfectly in the hand. The steel is easy to sharpen and holds an edge reasonably well. Develops a nice patina. Secure lock. Strong spring. Well-balanced. There are some imperfections in the grinds—just like in Cold Steels...
-
A simple but reliable folding knife. It is sturdy and has a lot of power. It will work great wherever you take it. I recommend the knife and shopping at the Militaria store.
-
A very nice classic piece. Carbon steel is not for everyone. The knife is perfectly fitted.
-
Great thick leather holster, tool steel knife gives satisfaction in prolonged work without sharpening, the lock is solid for a liner lock. It has a classic vibe.
-
The supplied sheath for the knife is unfortunately an so-called eco product. On the back of the sheath, you can see slight scratches which, after a little stretching, turn into marks like after a cut. Pity...
-
Excellent all-purpose knife, the blade shape gives it character. Handles are nicely finished, not matte. Carbon steel. The lock is well hidden; you have to feel when it clicks. Unbeatable for the price, plus a very nice leather sheath. The guys from Böker could go learn from the guys at Chinese Cold Steel.

Great knife. The carbon steel just gives it more character.
-
I bought the knife because I liked it; it is large and not riveted.
-
A wonderful knife, for the money, it lacks nothing to call it the discovery of the season. I recommend it to everyone.
-
Quite large, fairly well fitted. Nice sheath. You can easily sharpen it to shaving level. It's rare to find carbon steel folders, I looked for such a one for a long time. I recommend it.
-
Quite well-made and fitted. Fairly sharp. Nice sheath. The knife can be disassembled into parts, it is not riveted but screwed together. I bought it because of the steel the blade is made from. I just like carbon steels, besides Opinel, it’s hard to find something in a folding version.
-
A really nice knife with good workmanship and average steel quality.
-
