Cold Steel Tokyo Spike Knife 4116 - Black

Neck knife from the Spike series, featuring a fixed blade with a Straight-Back profile, crafted from premium 4116 stainless steel and Cryo Quenched for enhanced durability. Outfitted with a black handle constructed from robust Griv-Ex material. Supplied with a Secure-Ex sheath and a ball chain, allowing for easy and secure neck carry.

high-quality 4116 Cryo Quenched steel

The blade is crafted from 4116 Cryo Quenched steel, an enhanced variant of stainless steel 4116 (DIN 1.4116). This steel undergoes advanced cryogenic treatment, boosting its toughness and mechanical strength.

A carbon content (0.45-0.55%) delivers reliable hardness, while chromium (14-15%) ensures excellent resistance to corrosion. The alloy is further reinforced with additions of molybdenum, vanadium, manganese, silicon, and nickel, contributing to superior durability. Through the cryogenic process, the steel achieves greater structural stability, improved wear resistance, and longer-lasting sharpness for the edge.

blade in Straight-Back profile

Outfitted with a blade featuring a Straight-Back profile, this model offers a smooth cutting edge with a length of 101.6 mm and a thickness of 3 mm. Defined by a straight, subtly downward-sloping spine, the blade is crafted with a zero-grind edge and completed with a satin finish, delivering a semi-matte appearance and increased resistance to scratches.

handle made from durable Griv-Ex material

Black handle constructed from robust Griv-Ex delivers superior resistance to mechanical damage, moisture, and sudden weather shifts. Enhanced non-slip texture provides improved control over the tool, while the finger choil ensures a secure and comfortable hold. A functional cross guard reliably protects fingers from accidentally sliding onto the blade.

Secure-Ex sheath included

The set comes equipped with a Secure-Ex sheath, engineered to keep the knife firmly in place while still offering rapid deployment whenever required. For easy neck carry, a ball chain is included. This method of transport is ideal for daily carry as well as outdoor, tactical, or survival scenarios.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
4116 Cryo Quenched feature
4116 Cryo Quenched
4116 Cryo Quenched is an improved version of 4116 stainless steel (DIN 1.4116), produced by ThyssenKrupp, subjected to additional cryogenic treatment, which improves its durability and mechanical properties. The carbon content (0.45-0.55%) ensures good hardness, while chromium (14-15%) provides corrosion resistance. The steel also contains molybdenum, vanadium, manganese, silicon, and nickel, which support its strength. The cryogenic process stabilizes the steel, increases wear resistance, and maintains sharpness for longer. After heat treatment, it reaches a hardness of 55-57 HRC, making it easy to maintain and resistant to corrosion. It is widely used in the production of kitchen knives and premium utility tools.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

Great knife. Ultra-light, solidly made, razor sharp, and beautiful. Despite the narrow handle, it fits well in the hand and the texture ensures it doesn’t slip. A product definitely worth recommending, and I will probably buy more from this series myself.

My first purchase was the Bowie and the Spike as a pair. The back of the blade is probably for a firestarter... It sits firmly in the sheath, the make is rough, sharp with a chain. Cold Steel is IT.

Light and compact, yet it is still a full-fledged knife. A good recipe for a decent fixed-blade EDC knife. Decent workmanship and good price, I encourage you to try it.
