Cold Steel Warcraft Tanto Medium San Mai III Knife

Fixed knife featuring a 139 mm blade with a Tanto shape, crafted from laminated San Mai III stainless steel. The handle scales are constructed from robust glass-epoxy G10 material with a non-slip finish. Supplied with a Secure-Ex sheath system equipped with holes and grommets for multi-position attachment to a belt or gear.

Laminated San Mai III stainless steel

The Warcraft model is equipped with a blade crafted from laminated San Mai III stainless steel, renowned for excellent edge retention and outstanding resistance to stress and breakage. A high hardness steel core delivers superior edge-holding capability, while outer layers of softer steel provide increased flexibility and enhanced protection against damage.

Tanto profile blade, satin finish

Featuring a 139 mm long, 5 mm thick Tanto profile blade, this knife is crafted with a subtle hollow grind, striking a balance between superior durability and excellent cutting performance. Thanks to its substantial thickness and precise blade geometry, exceptional strength and suitability for heavy-duty tasks are ensured. The blade's surface undergoes a satin finishing treatment, creating a consistent, linear texture that minimizes glare and helps mask small scratches sustained during use.

Full Tang construction, G10 scales

An ergonomically shaped handle with Full Tang construction features scales crafted from glass-epoxy laminate G10, known for its exceptional resistance to mechanical impact and adverse environmental conditions. The handle’s non-slip texture ensures a firm and reliable grip throughout use. At the handle’s end, a lanyard hole allows for easy attachment of a safety cord. A low-profile, single-sided cross guard is designed not to hinder operation, while the finger choil provides effective hand protection even during forceful thrusts. The spine features jimping (textured notches) in the thumb rest area, promoting enhanced blade control during tasks.

Secure-Ex sheath

Crafted with the Secure-Ex system, the sheath uses materials that are resistant to harsh environmental conditions. A fitted opening along with a snap-fastened loop ensures the knife is held firmly in place, minimizing the likelihood of accidental loss. The loop facilitates convenient belt attachment, while multiple holes and grommets permit versatile multi-position mounting to additional equipment.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
San Mai feature
San Mai
San Mai (ja. "three layers") is a three-layer steel laminate developed by Cold Steel, combining a hard, high-carbon core with outer layers of stainless steel that offer high flexibility and corrosion resistance. The outer layers protect the core from damage, increase the blade's impact resistance, and facilitate maintenance. Depending on the generation, Cold Steel has used different core steels: VG-1 (San Mai III), containing 0.95-1.05% carbon and 13-15% chromium, characterized by good edge retention and rust resistance, and VG-10, enriched with molybdenum (0.9-1.2%) and vanadium (0.2-0.3%), which improves hardness, abrasion resistance, and edge retention. After proper heat treatment, the core reaches a hardness of 59-61 HRC. Products with a VG-1 San Mai core are manufactured in Japan in limited editions and are used in Cold Steel's most exclusive collector's fixed knives. VG-10 San Mai is produced in small series and is used exclusively in top-of-the-line collector's knives. San Mai is a registered trademark of Cold Steel.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

A very interesting project, a knife with plenty of power and an aggressive design. Excellent Japanese steel, which has good cutting parameters and dulls slowly. I can recommend it without hesitation to those who like this kind of style.
