Higo Hoseki Folding Knife - Black/Satin

Folding knife structurally referencing traditional Japanese Higonokami knives from the early 19th century. The minimalist form is combined with a modern finish and a utility blade featuring a Reverse Tanto profile, making the model suitable for both everyday EDC use and basic outdoor tasks. The blade is made of 7Cr13 stainless steel, while the handle is crafted from brass, giving the whole a classic appearance.

7Cr13 stainless steel

The knife blade is made of 7Cr13 stainless steel, which provides a good balance between edge retention, corrosion resistance, and ease of sharpening. Thanks to its properties, this material performs well in everyday use, offering appropriate durability and simple maintenance.

Reverse tanto blade, hammered and satin-finished

The blade with a length of 75 mm and thickness of 2.7 mm has a reverse tanto profile and features a flat grind extending to half the height of the blade, providing good cutting capabilities and facilitating precise tasks. The knife's blade is finished using a satin method, and its upper part is covered with decorative hammering (tsuchime) in a dark finish. The combination of the semi-matte surface with the dark hammering effect gives the knife a distinctive, Japanese craft-inspired appearance and helps to conceal minor signs of use.

Brass handle, lanyard hole

The handle is made from a single piece of brass sheet. The slim profile makes the knife fit comfortably in a pocket and works well as a light Everyday Carry (EDC) knife. At the rear of the handle, there is a hole for threading a lanyard or a safety strap.

Friction Folder mechanism

The model uses a friction folder mechanism, a traditional solution without a classic blade lock. The blade is held in the open position by the resistance of the mechanism and the characteristic Chikiri lever placed on the spine of the blade, which also facilitates its opening.

Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
