Higo Hoseki Folding Knife - Damascus

Folding knife design inspired by traditional Japanese Higonokami knives from the early 19th century. The minimalist form is combined with a modern finish and a utility blade with a Reverse Tanto profile, making this model suitable for both everyday EDC use and basic outdoor tasks. The blade is made from high-quality Damascus steel, while the handle is crafted from brass, giving the whole a classic appearance.

Damascus steel

The blade is made of Damascus steel with a well-visible, distinctive layered pattern. Damascus is a composite created by repeatedly forging and welding different types of steel, which allows for high strength, flexibility, and an attractive look of the blade. The semi-matte finish further highlights the layered structure of the steel, giving the knife a character inspired by Japanese craftsmanship.

Reverse tanto blade, flat grind

The blade has a length of 75 mm and a thickness of 2.6 mm, features a Reverse Tanto profile, and is equipped with a flat grind extending halfway up the blade height, providing good cutting properties and facilitating precision tasks. The blade is made from Damascus steel with a characteristic layered pattern and matte finish, featuring a dark color scheme that emphasizes the knife's character.

Brass handle, hole for a cord

The handle is made from a single piece of brass sheet. The slim profile ensures the knife fits comfortably in a pocket and serves well as a light everyday carry (EDC) knife. A hole is placed at the back of the handle to allow threading a cord or safety lanyard.

Friction Folder mechanism

The model uses a friction folder type mechanism, a traditional solution without a classic blade lock. The blade is held open by the mechanism's resistance and a characteristic Chikiri lever located on the blade spine, which also facilitates opening.

Damascus steel is a composite material created by combining multiple layers of different types of steel with varying properties. Repeated forging and welding creates a structure with high strength, flexibility, and hardness. Layers with a higher carbon content are responsible for the sharpness and durability of the edges, while nickel alloy steel increases corrosion resistance and provides a contrasting pattern. After etching the surface, a unique, wavy pattern characteristic of each piece is revealed. Thanks to its combination of functional and aesthetic properties, Damascus steel is used in premium knives, bladed weapons, and collector's knives.
