The classic Ka-Bar Mark 1 tactical knife features a stick-tang design, with a blade crafted from 1095 Cro-Van high-carbon tool steel, known for its excellent abrasion resistance. The blade undergoes hardening to reach a hardness level of 56-58 HRC and is finished with a black matte, anti-reflective coating.

The ergonomically shaped handle is constructed from pressure-bonded buffalo leather discs, providing comfort and a secure grip. A steel cross guard prevents the hand from sliding onto the blade, while a robust pommel at the handle’s end functions as a practical field tool. Accompanying the knife is a genuine leather sheath, embossed with the USN (United States Navy) emblem, and equipped with a loop for convenient vertical belt attachment.

In October 1942, the Ka-Bar MK1 was developed for the United States Marine Corps to replace bulkier knives previously in use. Early 1943 saw this model supplied to soldiers in the Pacific during World War II as a multi-purpose and combat knife. The Ka-Bar brand name reportedly stems from a shortened version of “kill a bear,” reflecting the knife’s strength and effectiveness. The Mark I evolved into the Mark 2, a design that remains standard issue for USMC personnel.

Ka-Bar is a brand whose history dates back to the late 19th century, and which gained real fame during World War II, when the Fighting Utility model was officially adopted by the US Marine Corps. The durable and versatile knife quickly became legendary, proving itself both in combat and in the daily tasks of soldiers. The name Ka-Bar itself comes from the 1920s, when a trapper described in a letter how he managed to “kill a bear” with a Union Cutlery knife. In 1952, wanting to emphasize the power of this symbol, the company officially changed its name to Ka-Bar Knives Inc., and its products are still considered a model of reliability today. An important chapter in the brand's history is also its collaboration with Ethan Becker, which resulted in the Becker series, highly valued by users, combining practical solutions with a modern approach to knife design.

The knife looks great, matches the description, sits well in the hand although the handle is a bit too short. It's very well made, the sheath is made of great leather, it smells just like real leather should, it's soft and fits the knife, and it has a clasp at the top, which is important when inserting the knife into the sheath to avoid cutting the strap. One more thing, it shaves forearms. I recommend it.

Classic of the genre. Great knife, very good quality of workmanship, only the sheath from Mexico could be better made. The price is definitely too high. Although I had more expensive knives that were much worse made. Overall, the knife is a bomb for me. The sheath needs to be protected right away.

Great knife. Flawless workmanship. The opinion depends on how you use it. I will rather look at it than use it, although it won’t be just a showpiece. It is so versatile that it can be used in many ways. Minimal care of the leather handle is a must. It’s worth the effort, as such a knife is not only a piece of steel, it’s also an investment and a piece of history. Very good steel that requires little maintenance. And most importantly: it’s a Ka-Bar…
