As winter gloves, they are OK for temperatures down to -10, -5°C at most. Of course, this is a subjective feeling, but that's how they work for me. Generally, I think Thinsulate insulation is better than Primaloft in Mechanix gloves, and that's why this version works better for me, but the feel of the equipment in these gloves isn’t that great. Overall, I’m satisfied.
Mechanix Wear Cold Weather SUB40 Tactical Gloves - Realtree Edge
SUB40 winter tactical gloves in authentic Realtree Edge camouflage deliver superior protection against cold, while safeguarding hands from cuts and abrasions.
Synthetic leather with Padlock coating
The inner surface of the gloves features synthetic leather, topped with a silicone, anti-slip Padlock coating to enhance grip reliability. For increased impact resistance, a 3 mm EVA foam layer offers effective cushioning. The trigger finger showcases an embossed finish and added reinforcement, enabling precise firearm operation.
3M Thinsulate insulation and waterproof membrane
Enhanced with inner 3M Thinsulate 40 g insulation, these gloves deliver outstanding heat retention and maintain optimal thermal comfort. Outfitted with a waterproof membrane, they ensure breathability while minimizing hand perspiration.
Extended cuffs, snap fasteners and loops for easy carrying
Designed with a comfortable cuff, these gloves offer an adjustable fit at the wrists. The extended cuff provides additional coverage, helping to block cold air from penetrating inside. Integrated snap fasteners and loops at the wrists make it easy to clip the gloves together for convenient transport and storage.
Touchscreen compatibility
With the touchscreen-compatible feature, operating mobile devices is possible without taking off the gloves.
EN388-2132XX and EN511 221 Standards
These gloves are certified to the EN388 standard with a protection level of 2132XX against mechanical hazards, which corresponds to the following:
- 2: abrasion resistance (scale 0–4)
- 1: cut resistance (scale 0–5)
- 3: tear resistance (scale 0–4)
- 2: puncture resistance (scale 0–4)
- X: cut resistance – TDM method (ISO 13997) (scale A–F)
- X: impact protection (test performed)
Cold protection aligns with the EN511 standard at level 221, which represents:
- 2: resistance to convective cold (scale 0–4)
- 2: resistance to contact cold (scale 0–4)
- 1: water penetration resistance (0 or 1)
As defined by the EN388 and EN511 standards, the protection levels for gloves use scales where 0 means no protection, and the highest values (4, 5) indicate maximum resistance. For water penetration, 0 signals penetration and 1 means no penetration.
In the TDM (ISO 13997) assessment, the scale utilizes letters, with A as the lowest degree of protection and F as the highest.
X indicates that a parameter has not been evaluated or does not apply, while P indicates that the glove complies with impact protection standards.

Thinsulate is a high-tech insulating material from 3M with a special construction based on synthetic microfibers that provide high thermal insulation at a low weight. Its lightweight, elasticity, and ability to retain heat even in humid conditions make it widely used in clothing and footwear. Thinsulate fibers are durable and abrasion-resistant, resulting in long-lasting durability.
EVA Phylon is a type of lightweight foam that has a higher density and better resilience than traditional EVA foam. It provides adequate support and cushioning in various types of shoes. It is flexible, abrasion-resistant and effectively absorbs any shock during activity.
Padlock is a technology used in Mechanix gloves, based on hexagonal-shaped silicone elements with non-slip properties, designed to provide optimal grip. The silicone on the gripping side of the gloves improves control over the tools handled and objects carried, increasing user comfort and safety.

I bought them with the idea of using them for nature photography in winter, and after 2 weeks of use, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I can't complain about the quality of workmanship. At temperatures around -5°C they're reasonably warm, but just today at dawn, at -20°C, my fingertips were totally frozen (but of course, temperature perception is very individual). My biggest reservation is that operating a camera in them is rather inconvenient. There's about 0.5 cm of material at the fingertips beyond the pads, which makes it difficult to feel smaller buttons. I wouldn't buy them again for photography. On the other hand, when playing in the snow with my son, they worked great.

I am disappointed with these gloves. Firstly, because of their sizing. I buy Mechanix Original and FastFit models in size M. This model in the same size is too big for me. Secondly, because of their lining. Unfortunately, the lining slips out when taking off the gloves and then it is difficult to put them back on. I returned these gloves because I don't want to have problems putting them on when my hands are cold. Gloves should be easy to put on, not troublesome.

I ordered these for cold autumn nights with fog so thick you could cut it with a knife. The humidity in those areas really gets to you, ordinary tactical gloves weren't enough. But these gloves performed great, not only in autumn but also in winter.
-
Good gloves like all the ones I bought from Mechanix. The material inside is soft and warm, though you do need to work a bit to get them to fit right when putting them on. I think they are more autumn gloves than winter. The forest camouflage is vivid. Recommended.
-
Fairly good gloves. I like Mechanix, but these are not perfect. They have their drawbacks—for example, the insulation shifts inside when putting them on and taking them off, which sometimes makes them harder to put on and you have to adjust them. Despite that, I recommend them!
-
These are definitely not winter gloves. Okay, they are comfortable, insulated, and so on, but I would say they are more suitable for autumn. In sub-zero temperatures, they are quite cold.
-
They protect against frost and fit the hands well. The downside is that you can't use a touchscreen with them. Other than that, everything is fine. I recommend them.

Good, comfortable gloves, useful for airsoft in cold days, but as a previous reviewer said, unfortunately they don't fully do their job. They are fine in mild frost, but in stronger frost fingers freeze, and the gloves tend to soak through. In general I recommend the Mechanix brand, but if you want winter gloves, I recommend looking for something else.
-
For me, they are suitable; thicker ones could affect hand mobility, and when working with tools it's better to feel them. Tested in the field. The downside: the color is cool, but if you throw them on the ground, you might miss them :) It's better to clip them to your belt :)

When it comes to protection from the cold, it's a complete disaster. Even light frost, or around 0°C and my fingers freeze like crazy. I would prefer to return them, because they do not do their job.
-
Great winter gloves, very warm. Perfect for mountain trails or working with firearms, although you need to get used to working in such thick gloves compared to Mpact or 0.5 Speciality.
-
The gloves are ok, haven't tested them yet for water resistance but they look well made and are easy to use equipment with. The downside is there is no thermal wow-effect.
-
Mega good gloves, especially recommended for hunters because they have really good camouflage and are super durable and nearly indestructible. Great product.

Delivery is about a week to Ukraine (by courier). I got them for next winter—like they say, get your sledge ready in summer. The size fits, there is a finger for smartphone use, and it's convenient for shooting.
