I bought XL, which turned out to be too tight, so I returned them to the store and ordered XXL, but they also turned out to be too tight. Very disappointing :( The workmanship is flawless, but what is going on with this sizing? Are these gloves for ants?? And I don't have hands like a bear — I usually wear size L gloves. From the same brand!
Mechanix Wear ColdWork Canvas Utility Tactical Gloves - Black
Tactical gloves in black, crafted with advanced DuraHide technology. Offering reliable defense against subzero temperatures, they also safeguard hands from abrasions and cuts. The combination of 100g 3M Thinsulate insulation and soft Sherpa lining effectively traps warm air inside the gloves while managing moisture. This construction delivers consistent thermal comfort, even in extreme weather conditions.
durable materials, EVA foam, Gunn Cut Finger design
The exterior of the gloves features a robust canvas material treated with a C6 hydrophobic coating, providing excellent resistance against moisture and oil. A 3 mm layer of EVA foam padding safeguards the ankles from impacts. The palm side is crafted from leather that resists both water and abrasion, produced with advanced DuraHide technology. For added longevity, the Gunn Cut Finger construction is used to relocate exposed seams away from high-wear areas.
cuff with ribbing
Featuring a comfortable cuff with fabric ribbing, the gloves ensure a secure fit around the wrists. The extended cuff design provides additional protection, effectively preventing cold air from entering the gloves.
protective standards
These gloves comply with the American protective standard ANSI/ISEA 105 at level 4XX for their resistance to cuts, abrasions, and punctures, signifying:
- 4: abrasion resistance (on a scale from 1 to 6)
- X: cut resistance (on a scale from A1 to A9)
- X: puncture resistance (on a scale from 0 to 5)
Gloves conform to the EN388 protective standard at level 2223X relating to mechanical hazard protection, interpreted as:
- 2: abrasion resistance (on a scale of 0–4)
- 2: cut resistance (on a scale of 0–5)
- 2: tear resistance (on a scale of 0–4)
- 3: puncture resistance (on a scale of 0–4)
- X: cut resistance – TDM method (ISO 13997) (on a scale of A–F)
Cold protection is certified to EN511 at level 23X, which represents:
- 2: resistance to convective cold (on a scale of 0–4)
- 3: resistance to contact cold (on a scale of 0–4)
- X: water penetration resistance (0 or 1)
According to the ANSI/ISEA 105 standard, abrasion resistance is graded on a scale from 1 to 6 and refers to the number of cycles material withstands before developing wear. Cut resistance uses a classification from A1 to A9, where A1 is minimal and A9 is maximum. Puncture resistance is evaluated on a scale of 0 to 5 and quantifies the amount of force required for a sharp spike to penetrate the glove surface, excluding needle puncture.
The scales specified by EN388 and EN511 standards determine glove protection: 0 denotes a lack of protection, while values 4 or 5 represent the highest available resistance. For water penetration, 0 means water passes through, 1 means it does not.
With the TDM (ISO 13997) testing, letter designations are used, where A is the lowest level of protection and F represents the highest.
X marking shows a parameter was not tested or does not apply.

EVA is a lightweight foam made of plastic characterized by flexibility and durability, as well as good resistance to chemicals and moisture. It is widely used in the production of clothing, footwear and accessories.
Sherpa is a fabric made of thick synthetic yarns (acrylic, polyester) with a distinctive texture. One side is smooth, while the other has dense and soft fibers resembling wool. It is characterized by very good thermal insulation properties.
Thinsulate is a high-tech insulating material from 3M with a special construction based on synthetic microfibers that provide high thermal insulation at a low weight. Its lightweight, elasticity, and ability to retain heat even in humid conditions make it widely used in clothing and footwear. Thinsulate fibers are durable and abrasion-resistant, resulting in long-lasting durability.

The workmanship is flawless, but the sizing is extremely exaggerated. I usually wear L, I ordered XL because it's better not to have tight gloves in the frost... and they turned out to be much too tight :(
-
The purchase was mainly dictated by the brand; at first I thought I had bought a size too small. So far, they've worked well for clearing frozen windows in the car. I wish there was a bigger, sturdier loop for attaching a carabiner.

I don't understand the hype about Mechanix gloves. I've had many models and almost all have thumbs that are too big. And these gloves are like putting your hands in concrete. I switched to 5.11 Competition Primaloft Insulated Tactical Gloves and they are great. Mechanix makes good quality gloves but the sizing and usability are poor.
-
Very warm, very thick gloves for frost. Another fantastic pair of Mechanix gloves. Ended with a really nice, comfortable drawstring cuff which easily fits under a jacket sleeve. The gloves are splash-resistant but not waterproof. I am very satisfied with the purchase. I recommend!

Worn at -10°C, in dry conditions they performed excellently, I haven't had a chance to test water resistance, very warm but you need to choose the size carefully. My size went from M to XL compared to summer Mechanix gloves.
-
The gloves feel well-made. For me, though, they turned out to be too thick and too tight. Size XXL, but even smaller hands fit just barely. I suggest trying them in a physical store.
-
Very well-made gloves, solid stitching, and well thought out. They have a cold resistance rating—meaning insulation parameters they have to meet. Everyone's body regulates temperature differently, but for me, in -15°C, they handle several-hour hikes just fine. They don't soak through. The cuff instead of a bell is a great idea—I know it's a matter of taste, but I prefer it this way. One minus (not the gloves' fault, but the website's description): It says "Touchscreen compatible: yes"—let's be clear: NO, it doesn't work with touchscreens, and it's not the gloves' fault; the manufacturer doesn't claim it works, it's just a description mistake. The gloves are pretty thick, so don't expect to do very precise manual tasks in them.

Unfortunately, they're not suitable for frost. At -5°C, your hands freeze after about 10 minutes. At -1°C, your hands freeze after about 20 minutes. 20-year-old gloves I bought at a market have basically the same thermal insulation.
-
My first gloves that are this warm. The very thick padding makes it a bit hard to grab things, but at -5°C and in the wind my hands were well-protected from the cold the whole time.
-
Very warm, perfect for extremely cold weather. They do not soak through.
-
Great gloves. Very comfortable and very warm. Not suitable for snow, as they soak through, but aside from that, they are excellent.
-
The brand speaks for itself. I already have two pairs that have been heavily used and they're great. This time I bought them for my son—so far just the beginning of use, but he's very happy. Plus, they're warm and well-designed. I recommend.

Very warm, great for frosts.
