200 Years of History — From Prague to Colt CZ Group
Louis Sellier, a merchant of French-Czech-German heritage, established a facility in Prague in 1825 producing percussion caps for infantry — commissioned by Austrian Emperor Francis I. That military contract laid the foundation for a company that within two decades became one of the key ammunition suppliers to the Austro-Hungarian Army. By 1830, the facility was already producing 60 million caps annually, and by 1837 that figure had reached 156 million — an impressive scale by 19th-century industrial standards.
Over the following centuries, the company lived through pivotal historical moments, supplying ammunition during the Napoleonic Wars and both World Wars. In 1936, headquarters relocated from Prague to Vlašim. After World War II, the company was nationalized and became the sole small-caliber ammunition manufacturer for the entire Warsaw Pact. Privatization followed in 1992. In 2009, S&B became part of the Brazilian CBC Group (Magtech). In 2024, the company joined Colt CZ Group SE — a group comprising CZ, Colt, Colt Canada, and other brands.
