Boker Plus BabyX Folding Knife

Böker Plus BabyX is a lightweight, compact EDC folding knife designed by Darriel Caston. The model is manually opened with a front flipper, and its Sheepfoot blade is made of D2 tool steel. The handle is made of stainless steel , with a gray color and distinctive grooved finish.

D2 tool steel

The blade is made of D2 tool steel, known for its high abrasion resistance and excellent edge retention. D2 steel is hard and durable, ideal for everyday use knives, providing resistance to blade dulling. The material has good impact resistance, although it is less corrosion-resistant than stainless steel.

Sheepfoot blade with satin finish

The Sheepfoot profile blade has a length of 40 mm and a thickness of 3 mm. It features a smooth cutting edge with a flat grind. The blade is finished with the satin method, creating a semi-matte, even texture on the blade surface and enhancing scratch resistance. Jimping is added to the blade's spine to offer better thumb support during use.

stainless steel handle

The handle is made of stainless steel. Its grooved, wavy surface improves grip and highlights the knife's industrial character. The design includes a steel Deep-Carry clip for right-side tip-up pocket carry, and a hole for a cord, lanyard or keychain.

frame lock, opening with flipper

The strong Frame Lock secures the blade. The knife is manually opened with the front flipper, supported by a ball bearing mechanism for smooth blade deployment.

D2 feature
D2
D2 is a high-carbon tool steel classified as semi-stainless, characterized by high wear resistance and the ability to maintain a thin, durable edge. It achieves a hardness of 57-62 HRC, which ensures long-lasting sharpness even with intensive use. Its chemical composition is a precisely selected combination of elements: carbon (1.4-1.6%), chromium (11-13%), molybdenum (up to 0.8%), vanadium (up to 1%), manganese (up to 1%), and silicon (up to 1%). The high carbon and chromium content ensures hardness and wear resistance, while molybdenum and vanadium improve the strength and durability of the cutting edge. Although D2 steel is not completely stainless, its corrosion resistance is sufficient to meet the requirements of most conditions of use. It is widely used in the production of mid-range and high-end knives, including handmade knives and cutting tools.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

A good knife, compact, high quality workmanship and materials, although for its size and capabilities it's a bit too expensive in my opinion. However, the design is so unique that it can be justified, so I recommend it if someone likes such inventions.
