Horace Kephart enjoyed a successful family life, outstanding education, and a steadily advancing career, ultimately serving as the director of one of America’s largest libraries. He was recognized for his extensive collection of rare books and esteemed for his expertise. At 42 years old, in 1904, he left all of this behind to seek a new existence in an abandoned cabin deep in the mountains, dedicating the remainder of his life to embracing the simplicity and rigor of the wilderness.

By 1906, he released The Book of Camping and Woodcraft, where he generously imparts a wealth of knowledge on wilderness camping, modern gear, hunting techniques, firearms, camp cuisine, and a host of crucial wilderness skills. This work quickly rose to prominence as a bestseller, earning its place as one of the foundational and most influential books in the field of camping literature.

The Polish edition has been meticulously translated to preserve the original character of the classic work, ensuring it remains approachable and engaging for contemporary readers.

All content within the book is written in Polish.

Another book I often return to. The book is pleasant to read, very inspiring and encourages trying out and experimenting. Lots of valuable information, which sometimes saves you from trouble. Recommended for self-education.

A nice read describing the "ancient" realities of camping. Some of the knowledge is still current. Pleasant to read. An ideal book for the evening. You can compare with modern techniques and equipment.

A very interesting title. The book was translated brilliantly by Rafał W. (Rufus). It's a very enjoyable read. I will definitely buy the second volume and other books translated by Rufus. I encourage everyone interested in all aspects of bushcraft to read it.

I'm amazed at how much I perceive things the same way as the author... Despite its instructional nature, the book is easy and smooth to read. A valuable source of information, ideas and inspiration.

Although it describes old times and old gear solutions, the book is very interesting. Many of the ideas are still relevant – I've decided to use some in my own gear after a few modifications. The equipment catalogs add atmosphere to the story, good tables describing resource needs for specific durations, plus recipes for simple camp meals. I recommend.

Great book! Very practical, but more useful 100 years ago ;).

Great book! Lots of useful advice (some today are just curiosities). The old ads and drawings are a plus!

A very pleasant book. Although some of the information is rather archaic, you can still get a lot out of it. Purchased along with the Ka-Bar Becker Kephart BK62 (18173) SP knife.

I'll allow myself to quote (what I consider an adequate) opinion about Kephart's second book: Like every book from the "Old, Wonderful World," this one is simply fantastic. It takes us on a journey to distant, beautiful times, into the heart of dangerous, wild nature. It shows the vast knowledge of people living close to it and can easily serve as a handbook for today's fans of bushcraft and survival. An absolute must-have!
