Casstrom Woodsman Bog Oak Sleipner Fixed Blade Knife with flint

A knife with a total length of 205 mm and a 90 mm Drop-Point blade made of Sleipner tool steel. The blade features a Scandi (Scandinavian) grind. The blade has a satin finish, giving it a matte appearance. The handle scales are made of black oak. The set includes a natural leather sheath and a flint. The knife was designed by British knifemaker Roger Harrington.

Sleipner tool steel

The knife is crafted from a single piece of Sleipner tool steel developed by the Swedish steelworks Uddeholm and hardened to a hardness of 59-61 HRC. The material combines above-average wear resistance with high resistance to cracks and chipping, which is a difficult to achieve yet highly desirable combination for models intended for heavy-duty work. The steel used is much less prone to corrosion than typical low-alloy tool steels.

Drop-Point profile blade, Scandi grind

The blade 90 mm long and 4 mm thick with a Drop-Point profile, designed for maximum tip strength. This profile is particularly effective in outdoor and EDC applications where a combination of high piercing ability and optimal edge control is required.

The knife has a Full Tang construction, meaning the tang of the blade extends through the entire handle. The Woodsman model features a Scandinavian grind (Scandi), providing increased resistance to damage. The blade has a Satin finish, giving a semi-matte effect. The spine of the blade is ground at a 90 deg. angle, making it effectively work with a ferrocerium flint.

Ergonomic handle from black oak wood

Ergonomically shaped handle scales are made of black oak wood, valued for its high hardness, stability, and characteristic deep color. The handle scales are attached with copper pins.

Natural leather sheath

The set includes a sheath made of natural leather, which allows safe carrying of the knife on a belt. The model is equipped with an integrated loop for the flint included in the set.

Sleipner feature
Sleipner
Sleipner is a modern Cr-Mo-V tool steel developed by the Swedish steel mill Uddeholm as an improved version of D2 steel. Its 0.9% carbon content ensures high hardness, while 7.8% chromium improves wear resistance and provides moderate corrosion protection. The steel also contains 2.5% molybdenum, 0.5% vanadium, 0.9% silicon, and 0.5% manganese, which increase structural stability, fracture resistance, hardenability, and deformation resistance. After hardening, Sleipner achieves a hardness of 60-64 HRC, while maintaining excellent resistance to chipping, high impact strength, and long-lasting edge sharpness. This steel is a popular choice in the manufacture of hunting, survival, tactical, and folding knives, where high strength and long-lasting sharpness retention are required.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
