The AK-47 sits closer to the end of the handle than the beginning, so a bit of the handle gives you more reach. Opening is smooth, it opens by itself without problem when taken from the pocket. The G-10 feels great in the hand. The biggest plus: hollow grind, very sharp cutting edge, ideal for precise cuts. Blade length similar to that of the Spyderco Military, but a decidedly beefier construction of the tip and the whole knife.
Cold Steel AK-47 Black DLC S35VN Folding Knife
Folding tactical knife crafted by acclaimed knife designer Andrew Demko. Drawing inspiration from the Kalashnikov rifle, the design prioritizes superior resistance to both intensive use and environmental contamination. Outfitted with a Clip-Point blade forged from premium S35VN stainless steel, the knife also features grips constructed from durable G10 glass-epoxy composite.
S35VN stainless steel
The broad blade is crafted from premium S35VN stainless steel (an advanced version of S30V), utilizing powder metallurgy technology. This steel provides exceptional corrosion resistance, allows for easier sharpening compared to S30V, and, due to its finer grain structure, offers enhanced resistance to chipping.
Clip-Point blade profile, hollow grind, DLC coating
Equipped with a Clip-Point blade measuring 90 mm in length and featuring a thickness of 3.5 mm, the blade is crafted with a hollow grind. For enhanced resistance to corrosion and to minimize light reflections, the surface is finished with a black DLC coating (Diamond Like Carbon).
G10 laminate scales, glass breaker
A steel framework forms the core of the handle, with G10 glass-epoxy composite scales secured by screws. Designed with ergonomics in mind, the handle’s contoured shape and non-slip texture guarantee an exceptionally firm hold. A 6061 aluminum glass breaker is integrated at the end of the handle.
Tri Ad Lock, thumb disc opening
A thumb-operated disc positioned on the blade enables effortless knife deployment with either hand. The disc’s ergonomic design also lets it function similarly to Emmerson's wave system—by catching the protruding disc on your pocket edge while drawing, the blade opens instantly for rapid access.
Once opened, the blade is held securely by the Tri Ad Lock, an advanced evolution of the classic back lock. Recognized as one of the most robust and reliable locking mechanisms for folding knives, it delivers outstanding stability and strength.
spring clip
A spring clip integrated into the handle ensures practical everyday carry, making it easy to secure the knife to a belt or the edge of a pocket. The reversible clip can be installed in a tip-up orientation, offering convenience for both left and right-handed operators.

The Cold Steel AK-47 is an interesting choice among tactical folders, offering an alternative that hits a specific niche between ultra-large models like the Vaquero XL or small machetes such as the Spartan, and more everyday EDC tools. This is a knife that, with its construction and features, appeals to users looking for something durable, solid, and at the same time functional for everyday use. Design and Ergonomics One of the AK-47's biggest advantages is its handle. Well contoured and finished with aggressive texture (that “grippy” finish), it provides a secure grip even in difficult conditions. This is especially important for those who value safety and control over their tool. The handle, although massive, is designed in such a way that the knife doesn't feel too unwieldy, which can be an issue in larger models. There's also no Recurve blade, just a Clip Point, which means it doesn't have as much mass at the blade as the forest Spartan or Rajah – making it more suitable for quick close quarters combat than blades with different shapes. Compared to the Spartan, the AK-47 is much more practical. The clip is placed in a smarter spot, allowing you to draw the knife quickly and securely from your pocket (Demko plate), which is crucial when convenience and time matter. The construction itself looks “armored” – the bulky handle in relation to the blade provides a feeling of solidity in the hand, yet the knife remains discreet visually, as it isn’t bulky in the pocket. That’s a plus for those who don’t want to attract attention when unfolding the tool in urban settings. Blade and Materials The blade is made of high-quality steel, typical for the more expensive Cold Steel products, which translates into durability and ease of sharpening. The DLC coating on the blade adds protection against corrosion and scratches, although natural signs of use are bound to appear over time. That’s not a disadvantage – on the contrary. A knife with a “patina” finish looks authentic and proves it’s been used, not just for show. Weight and Balance Compared to larger models, the AK-47 is noticeably lighter, making it more universal for everyday carry. For those who need a sturdy folder but don’t want a heavy pocket, it’s a very attractive option. For the curious: - Total length similar to Tiger Claw or Socoma, a bit shorter than Military or HALO III. - Heavier than all four of the above mentioned. Summary The Cold Steel AK-47 is a knife that combines durability, practicality, and a distinctive tactical look. It’s perfect for those who need a tool for intensive use but want to avoid the unwieldiness of larger models. The aggressive texture of the handle, thoughtful proportions, and quality of workmanship make it a great choice for everyday use and tougher conditions alike. You could say that the AK-47 is a solid piece of steel that doesn’t just look good but performs its tasks with flying colors.

I hesitated for a long time to buy it and now I know why: the handle is so plasticky that it's an eyesore, and there's a lock I can't stand. On the plus side: ergonomics, weight, ability to pull out the open knife from your pocket, a mega look that catches the eye. I recommend it.

I considered this knife for over 2 years, finally decided to buy it and have no regrets – it cuts great and sits equally well in the hand. It probably won't replace the Spartan, but I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for something the size of the Recon 1. Truly a great knife!
