Cold Steel American Lawman S35VN Folding Knife

Folding tactical knife equipped with a Drop-Point blade crafted from CPM-S35VN stainless steel, offering exceptional resistance to corrosion and edge chipping. The blade features a black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating to minimize light reflection while delivering enhanced protection against corrosion and abrasion. The handle is constructed from G10 laminate in a black finish. Quick one-handed blade deployment is provided by a double-sided thumb stud, and a Tri-Ad Lock mechanism secures the blade firmly when open.

S35VN stainless steel

CPM-S35VN stainless steel, developed as an upgrade to S30V, is produced through powder metallurgy. Boasting superior corrosion resistance, excellent edge retention, and easier sharpening compared to S30V, its refined microstructure also provides enhanced resistance to chipping. Once hardened, the steel reaches 58-61 HRC, offering an optimal balance of edge strength and fracture toughness.

Drop-Point blade profile, DLC coating

Featuring a wide blade with a Drop-Point profile, the design offers a length of 89 mm and a thickness of 3.5 mm. Manufactured with a hollow grind, the blade provides enhanced cutting capabilities. Finished with a black DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating, glare is eliminated while hardness and abrasion resistance are significantly increased. Corrosion protection is ensured, and friction during cutting is minimized. The coating also helps reduce the risk of scratches. Superior cutting performance is delivered by the blade’s geometry, without sacrificing strength.

G10 composite scales, jimping

A steel framework forms the core of the handle, to which G10 glass-epoxy composite scales are secured with screws. Contoured shaping combined with an anti-slip texture enhances grip stability. Jimping along the knife spine provides superior thumb support, increasing control during use. A hole for threading a securing lanyard is integrated at the end of the handle.

Tri-Ad Lock type lock, convenient opening

The blade remains securely fixed in the open position by the Tri-Ad Lock mechanism, an advanced evolution of the traditional Back Lock and recognized as one of the toughest locking systems for folding knives. Utilizing a stop pin, the design effectively transfers operational forces from the blade directly to the handle’s frame, which significantly reduces wear on the locking mechanism. The system is designed to automatically adjust for natural material wear over time, ensuring continued locking strength. Integrated on the blade, a double-sided thumb stud permits rapid deployment with either the right or left hand.

steel clip

A spring clip integrated into the handle provides practical convenience for everyday carry, enabling secure attachment of the knife to a belt or pocket edge. The reversible clip can be positioned tip-up, making it ideal for both right- and left-handed users.

Cold Steel is a renowned American brand of knives, machetes and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company has gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, which are appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It has also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which ensures high strength and wear resistance. Cold Steel has patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand cooperates with renowned knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

CPM S35VN feature
CPM S35VN
CPM S35VN is a stainless powder steel developed by Crucible Industries in collaboration with Chris Reeve, used in premium knives. It is an evolution of the popular S30V steel, offering a better balance between wear resistance, stainlessness, and ease of machining. Carbon (approx. 1.4%) is responsible for high hardness, while chromium (approx. 14%) gives the steel very good corrosion resistance, and vanadium (approx. 3%) extends edge life and improves cutting aggression. After hardening, it reaches 58-61 HRC, combining edge durability with fracture resistance. The steel retains its sharpness for a long time and is easy to sharpen, commonly used in EDC, outdoor, tactical, and collector's knives.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
DLC - Diamond-Like Carbon feature
DLC - Diamond-Like Carbon
DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) is a modern protective coating in which a thin layer of amorphous carbon with a structure similar to diamond is applied to steel. It increases the hardness and abrasion resistance of the blade, protects against corrosion, and reduces friction during cutting. The characteristic matte shade of black or anthracite gives the knife a tactical look and eliminates light reflections, which is important in military and outdoor applications. Thanks to its high scratch resistance, the blade retains its aesthetics and functional properties for longer, which is why the DLC finish is widely used in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
G10 feature
G10
G10 is a lightweight and extremely durable material, considered one of the best for knife production. It is created by pressure-pressing fiberglass with phenolic resin, which gives it high durability and resistance to mechanical damage. It is chemically inert, does not conduct electricity, and retains its properties at both low and high temperatures. In terms of parameters, it is similar to carbon fiber, but its production is much cheaper. G10 handles are manufactured by precision cutting and cutting, which increases the cost of processing but ensures a perfect fit and long knife life.

Bought as a gift. Very successful little knife, a more handy version of the Recon 1, which I had actually bought for myself earlier.

The knife is solid, the size is perfect for EDC. Unfortunately, mine has the grind lines slightly misaligned. After 2 weeks of carrying in my pocket and occasional use, it required lubrication because it squeaked like an old door. The steel holds sharpness very well. The coating doesn't wear off from touch like it does on cheaper knives. Overall, an outstanding folder with great features, but for this price I expected better workmanship. That's why I give one star less.

For me, the handle is too flat and uncomfortable. Other than that, the mechanics are perfect.

My first Cold Steel. I bought it because I saw a lot of good reviews on YouTube. It became a "must have" knife. At first I was a bit disappointed – it's quite big, thin, hard to open with the thumb stud and the lock worked stiffly. During use, I appreciated its parameters, the opening mechanism and the lock started working smoothly. The knife fits perfectly in the hand, has a very secure grip, and the rough surface of the scales further improves the grip. Great steel, stays sharp for a long time. After a few months, I don't regret it. I recommend it.

The knife fits very well in the hand. Thanks to the sharp texture of the scales, you can hold it securely. Good mechanics and a tough lock. Factory sharp.

The handle is very comfortable, the finger grooves fit perfectly, both those in the handle and the one in the blade, and the high hollow grind and S35VN really provide great cutting properties.
