Cold Steel Counter Point I AUS10A Folding Knife

Counter Point folding knife based on the Counter Tac fixed-blade knives. The Spear-Point-profile blade, featuring a false cutting edge on the spine, is made of Japanese AUS10A stainless steel. The blade has a satin finish, and the modern steel used ensures long-lasting sharpness. The black handle scales are made of durable Griv-Ex plastic

Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel

The blade is made of Japanese AUS-10A steel, which is characterized by its strength and excellent resistance to corrosion and abrasion. After hardening, it reaches a hardness of 58–61 HRC.

Spear-Point profile blade, satin finish

The Spear-Point blade is 102 mm long and 3.5 mm thick. The blade has been finished using the satin finish method, which gives it a semi-matte texture that reduces light reflections and effectively hides signs of everyday use. The blade’s design ensures very good cutting performance while maintaining adequate strength, allowing for more intensive use of the knife.

aluminum framework, Griv-Ex material scales

The handle framework consists of aluminum liners, to which black scales made of durable Griv-Ex plastic are attached. The holes in the handle are designed to reduce the knife's weight, and the handle's shape allows for a secure grip. There is a hole at the end for a lanyard.

Tri-Ad Lock, double-sided thumb stud

When open, the blade is secured by the Tri-Ad Lock system, an improved version of the classic Back Lock and considered one of the most durable locking mechanisms in folding knives. The design relies on a stop pin that absorbs the forces acting on the blade and transfers them to the handle body, minimizing wear on the mechanism. The system automatically compensates for natural wear, ensuring the lock remains reliable. The blade features a thumb stud on both sides, allowing for quick, one-handed opening of the knife.

steel clip

Comfortable everyday carry is ensured by a spring-loaded, steel clip that allows you to clip the knife to your belt or the edge of a pocket. It can be screwed onto either the left or right side of the handle.

Militaria.pl is the official distributor of Cold Steel.

Cold Steel is a respected American brand of knives, machetes, and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which provides high durability and wear resistance. Cold Steel patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand works with respected knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

I am satisfied: nice design, weight, proper sharpness. The only minor downside is the handle's texture, which can cause various types of dirt or lint to collect near the blade, but obviously, this depends on the storage location. In short: I recommend it.
