Cold Steel Counter Point I AUS10A Folding Knife

Inspired by the Counter Tac fixed blade knives, the Counter Point is a folding knife featuring a blade with a Spear-Point design and a false edge along the spine. Crafted from Japanese AUS10A stainless steel, the blade boasts a satin finish, ensuring outstanding edge retention thanks to its advanced alloy. Rugged Griv-Ex material is used for the black handle scales, providing impressive durability.

Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel

Forged from Japanese AUS-10A steel, the blade boasts superior strength, outstanding resistance to corrosion, and impressive wear durability. Upon hardening, the blade achieves a hardness level of 58-61 HRC.

Spear-Point profile blade, satin finish

Equipped with a Spear-Point blade profile, the knife features a blade measuring 102 mm in length and 3.5 mm in thickness. Finished by the satin technique, the surface presents a semi-matte appearance that minimizes glare and effectively masks everyday wear. The design of the blade ensures superior cutting performance while retaining sufficient durability for demanding applications.

aluminum framework, Griv-Ex material scales

The handle is built on a framework of aluminum liners, with black scales crafted from high-strength Griv-Ex material mounted to them. Holes are integrated into the handle to minimize the knife's weight, while the ergonomic shape ensures a secure grip during use. A lanyard hole is positioned at the end of the handle for additional carrying options.

Tri-Ad Lock, double-sided thumb stud

In the open configuration, the blade is locked by the Tri-Ad Lock system, an advanced evolution of the traditional Back Lock and recognized as one of the most robust locking mechanisms used in folding knives. Featuring a design built around a stop pin, it effectively dissipates forces generated during use by transferring them into the handle, significantly reducing wear on the mechanism. The system also self-adjusts to compensate for inevitable tolerance changes over time, ensuring sustained reliability and stability of the lock. A double-sided thumb stud on the blade allows for rapid, one-handed deployment of the knife.

steel clip

A flexible steel clip provides secure and convenient daily carry, enabling the knife to be attached to a belt or the edge of a pocket. The clip can be mounted on either the left or right side of the handle.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
Griv-Ex feature
Griv-Ex
Griv-Ex is a durable glass-nylon composite reinforced with fiberglass used by Cold Steel, mainly for the production of knife handles, and in some models also for blade components. The material has a textured surface on the handles, which ensures a secure, non-slip grip, and its maintenance usually boils down to simple washing under running water. Griv-Ex is distinguished by its resistance to moisture, corrosion, mechanical damage, and extreme temperatures, and does not warp or crack under harsh conditions. When used in the construction of blades, it is additionally stabilized by UV rays and heat, which further increases its durability.

I am satisfied: nice design, weight, proper sharpness. The only minor downside is the handle's texture, which can cause various types of dirt or lint to collect near the blade, but obviously, this depends on the storage location. In short: I recommend it.
