Cold Steel Double Safe Hunter Orange Folding knife 8Cr13MoV

Folding EDC Knife from the Hunter series, drawing inspiration from the renowned Voyager model. Outfitted with a blade featuring a Clip-Point profile, crafted from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel. The blade showcases a satin finish, delivering an attractive semi-matte appearance. A double-sided thumb stud allows for easy opening. The Back Lock mechanism secures the blade when open, while an added sliding lock increases operational safety. The handle, rendered in Orange, is built from rugged glass-fiber reinforced nylon (GFN) for a secure, non-slip hold. Everyday portability is ensured by a reliable spring clip.

8Cr13MoV stainless steel

Forged from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, the blade delivers an excellent combination of edge retention, resistance to corrosion, and straightforward maintenance. Following heat treatment, hardness reaches 57-58 HRC, guaranteeing reliable cutting performance even during demanding tasks.

Clip-Point profile blade, satin finish

Equipped with a Clip-Point profile, the blade measures 76.2 mm in length and 3 mm in thickness. A smooth edge combined with a high grind ensures efficient slicing performance. The blade’s satin finish provides a semi-matte look, contributing both to visual appeal and to enhanced resistance against scratches. Blade geometry is engineered for superior cutting capability while preserving outstanding durability.

Durable handle with GFN

The handle scales are constructed from robust glass-fiber reinforced nylon (GFN), which, due to their ergonomic design and non-slip surface, deliver a secure and reliable grip. An integrated finger groove offers enhanced control over the tool, even when hands are wet or soiled. Everyday carry is made comfortable by a spring clip attached to the handle, enabling the knife to be attached to a belt or gear. The clip is reversible, allowing suitable mounting for both right- and left-handed users. A lanyard hole at the base of the handle provides an option for attaching a safety cord or lanyard.

Back Lock with additional safety

The blade is kept securely open by the classic Back Lock system. For added security, a sliding lock also secures the blade when closed, ensuring safe transport of the knife. A double-sided thumb stud mounted on the blade allows for rapid one-handed deployment using the thumb.

8Cr13MoV (8Cr13) feature
8Cr13MoV (8Cr13)
8Cr13MoV (8Cr13) is a Chinese stainless steel equivalent to Japanese AUS-8 steel. It offers a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (approximately 0.8%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Additions of molybdenum (0.3%), vanadium (up to 0.2%), manganese (0.5%), and silicon (0.4%) improve abrasion resistance and the stability of the steel structure. 8Cr13MoV is often used in the production of knives, including by companies such as Spyderco and Benchmade, which manufacture in China. After proper heat treatment, 8Cr13MoV steel achieves a hardness of 56-58 HRC, which makes it a material with good cutting properties, easy to sharpen, and relatively resistant to wear.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon feature
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon

GFN (Glass Filled Nylon) is a nylon reinforced with glass fiber, offering low weight, high durability, and resistance to moisture and many chemicals. The material performs exceptionally well in demanding conditions, maintaining its strength even under intensive use. GFN surfaces may be completely smooth or textured to improve grip, providing better control and overall ergonomics. The robustness of GFN handles has made this material a standard in the production of EDC (Everyday Carry) knives as well as lightweight tactical designs.

Great folder for a reasonable price. Quality as expected from CS—very good. Ergonomics and mechanics are excellent on my copy. I think it would put many more expensive folders to shame.

On a daily basis, I use a much heavier folder, the SR1 Lite, also from CS, so I had to get used to the Hunter. At first, because of the lighter weight and thinner design, it seemed delicate, but after a while I could already tell it’s another solid knife from Cold Steel. Very sharp, and the double locking mechanism gives a complete sense of security. When folded, it doesn’t bother you in your pocket and its weight is hardly noticeable, unlike the SR1, which pulls your pants down.

The steel could be a little better, but it's still standard Cold Steel—tough as hell, with great handle ergonomics.

A very proper design. Cheap and solid construction that allows you to be convinced of Cold Steel knives. Great for EDC, very durable, and its eye-catching colors make it hard to lose. Only advantages for relatively little money. I recommend it!
