Cold Steel Grik AUS-8A Folding Knife

Folding EDC (Every Day Carry) knife, developed in collaboration with renowned knifemaker Andrew Demko. The Drop-Point blade is made of Japanese AUS-8A stainless steel and finished with a satin finish. The black handle, made of glass-fiber-reinforced nylon (GFN), features a non-slip texture. Opening is facilitated by the HTR system, and the blade is locked in the open position by the Tri-Ad Lock. A green polymer clip is provided for carrying. The set includes a second clip designed to be mounted on the opposite side of the handle, making it easier to customize how you carry the knife.

AUS-8A stainless steel

The blade is made of Japanese AUS-8A stainless steel, which is characterized by high strength, corrosion resistance, and long-lasting sharpness. After proper heat treatment, AUS-8A steel achieves a hardness of 58–60 HRC.

Drop-Point blade with satin finish

The blade, with a Drop-Point profile, is 76 mm long and 3.5 mm thick. The blade has been finished using the satin finish method, which gives it a semi-matte surface, ensuring an attractive appearance and increasing scratch resistance. On the spine of the blade, there is a small notch that can serve as a thumb rest when applying greater pressure or as a place for the index finger during precise use of the tip.

GFN handle, wide polymer clip

The handle is made of GFN (Glass-Filled Nylon), which is glass-fiber-reinforced nylon. The material is lightweight and offers good resistance to moisture and many chemicals, while the addition of fibers increases its stiffness and wear resistance. The contoured shape and non-slip texture make it easier to control the grip. This model features a removable and repositionable, wide polymer clip, which makes it easier to carry the knife in a pocket.

Tri-Ad Lock, HTR opening system

The knife is equipped with a Tri-Ad Lock, one of the most durable locking systems used in folding knives. The design relies on a stop pin that absorbs the forces acting on the blade and transfers them to the handle body, minimizing wear on the mechanism. The system automatically compensates for natural wear, maintaining stable lock performance.

The HTR (Hollow Thumb Ramp) opening system is based on a contoured thumb sleeve with a non-slip texture, which provides a fulcrum for controlled blade opening with either the left or right hand.

Cold Steel is a respected American brand of knives, machetes, and tactical tools, founded in 1980 in Irving, California. The company gained popularity thanks to innovative solutions such as Kraton® handles and American Tanto blades, appreciated by uniformed services and military enthusiasts. It also introduced its own steel alloys, such as San Mai III®, which provides high durability and wear resistance. Cold Steel patented the Tri-Ad™ Lock blade locking mechanism, which guarantees safe use. The brand works with respected knifemakers, including the company's founder Lynn C. Thompson and Andrew Demko, whose passion and experience contribute to the high quality of the products.

AUS-8A feature
AUS-8A
AUS-8A is a Japanese stainless steel, equivalent to 440B steel, characterized by a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (0.7-0.75%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13-14.5%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Vanadium additives (up to 0.26%) improve the homogeneity of the steel's crystal structure and increase the blade's resistance to abrasion. The steel also contains molybdenum (0.1-0.3%), manganese (0.5%), silicon (0.4-1%), and nickel (0.49%). After proper heat treatment, AUS-8 steel achieves a hardness of 58-60 HRC, making it a solid material with good cutting properties and durability. The steel is widely used in mid-range knives, mainly produced in Japan and Taiwan, such as the popular Ontario RAT 1.
HTR - Hollow Thumb Ramp feature
HTR - Hollow Thumb Ramp
HTR (Hollow Thumb Ramp) is a solution patented by Cold Steel and used in the brand's knives to improve the ergonomics of opening the blade. It consists of a specially shaped sleeve with a non-slip texture on the blade, which can be used to open the knife with the thumb of either the right or left hand. The design was created by Andrew Demko and was implemented in the company's product range in 2017, including in the Golden Eye model. HTR is a kind of hybrid combining the advantages of a thumb hole and a thumb stud, providing a good resting point for the finger and facilitating confident, comfortable opening of the knife.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon feature
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon

GFN (Glass Filled Nylon) is a nylon reinforced with glass fiber, offering low weight, high durability, and resistance to moisture and many chemicals. The material performs exceptionally well in demanding conditions, maintaining its strength even under intensive use. GFN surfaces may be completely smooth or textured to improve grip, providing better control and overall ergonomics. The robustness of GFN handles has made this material a standard in the production of EDC (Everyday Carry) knives as well as lightweight tactical designs.

Looking at the photos, I was skeptical about this knife - but it is very handy and comfortable to use. The lock holds the blade well with no looseness. The knife can be easily opened with your thumb using the stud. I am very satisfied with the purchase.

I had been considering buying this knife for a long time because it has an interesting look, is small, and made of Japanese steel. I bought it as a gift. My brother is satisfied.

Very good EDC. The plastic stud can be removed, which in my opinion gives better traction when opening.

A very interesting design – something different, quite far from the average. Well made, handy and 'beautiful in its ugliness.' I think it's a cool addition to a collection.

Very nice knife, it's worth mentioning that the clip is also for the left pocket; there is an extra one in the set that fits on the other side, so both right- and left-handed people should be satisfied with this knife. I just regret waiting so long to buy it. The knife is great for EDC – I recommend it.
