Cold Steel Mini Leatherneck Tanto Knife 8Cr13MoV

A streamlined variant of the Cold Steel Leatherneck knife, drawing inspiration from the classic US Marines combat knives. Engineered with a full tang, fixed blade construction, this model excels in both tactical and survival scenarios. Crafted from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, the Tanto blade offers an optimal balance of corrosion resistance and ease of sharpening. Featuring a flat ground (Flat Grind) cutting edge and a satin finish. Supplied with a Secure-Ex sheath equipped with holes and eyelets for multi-position attachment to belts or additional equipment.

8Cr13MoV stainless steel

The blade utilizes 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, known for its easy sharpening, reliable edge retention, and resistance to corrosion. Undergoing heat treatment, the steel reaches a hardness of around 56-58 HRC, delivering solid cutting performance and enhanced wear resistance.

Tanto profile blade

Featuring a Tanto blade measuring 88 mm in length and 3 mm in thickness, the knife offers a flat ground (Flat Grind) plain edge. Precision is enhanced by a satin finish, which not only produces a uniform, linear pattern from the grinding process but also minimizes glare on the blade's surface.

Full Tang design, Kray-Ex handle, double-sided steel cross guard

Featuring a Full Tang construction, the steel tang extends throughout the entire length of the handle, enhancing overall strength and durability. The handle is equipped with an injection-molded Kray-Ex polymer grip. An ergonomic shape combined with an anti-slip texture ensures secure handling, even when hands are wet or dirty. A double-sided steel cross guard reduces the likelihood of the hand sliding onto the blade. At the handle’s end, a hole allows for easy attachment of a lanyard or paracord.

Secure-Ex Sheath

The sheath features the Secure-Ex system, crafted from a material that withstands harsh environmental conditions. Thanks to the fitted opening, the sheath keeps the knife firmly in place, minimizing the possibility of accidental drops. Multiple holes and grommets enable versatile mounting options on a belt or other equipment.

Secure-Ex feature
Secure-Ex
Secure-Ex is a system developed by Cold Steel, designed for the safe storage and convenient carrying of knives and tools. Sheaths made with this technology are lightweight, durable, and weather-resistant, making them suitable even for intensive use. They hold the knife securely in the sheath while allowing for quick and smooth draw. The system has a modular design - the sheaths can be supplemented with various fasteners, such as buckles, clips (e.g., C-Clip) or ball chains. This allows the knife to be worn on a belt, around the neck, or in other configurations, according to the user's preferences.
Kray-Ex feature
Kray-Ex
Kray-Ex is a synthetic polymer with a rubber-like structure used by Cold Steel to manufacture knife handles. It is characterized by high adhesion and anti-slip properties, ensuring a secure grip even in high humidity, low temperatures, and with dirty hands. The material is flexible and absorbs shocks well, which increases comfort of use. Kray-Ex is also resistant to cracking, abrasion, chemicals, and adverse weather conditions, making handles made of this material durable and virtually maintenance-free. Cold Steel uses it in tactical, survival, and utility knives.
8Cr13MoV (8Cr13) feature
8Cr13MoV (8Cr13)
8Cr13MoV (8Cr13) is a Chinese stainless steel equivalent to Japanese AUS-8 steel. It offers a good balance between corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and edge retention. The carbon content (approximately 0.8%) affects the hardness of the steel, while chromium (13%) provides very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. Additions of molybdenum (0.3%), vanadium (up to 0.2%), manganese (0.5%), and silicon (0.4%) improve abrasion resistance and the stability of the steel structure. 8Cr13MoV is often used in the production of knives, including by companies such as Spyderco and Benchmade, which manufacture in China. After proper heat treatment, 8Cr13MoV steel achieves a hardness of 56-58 HRC, which makes it a material with good cutting properties, easy to sharpen, and relatively resistant to wear.
Satin feature
Satin
Satin finishing is one of the most popular blade finishes, achieved by grinding the steel with fine-grained abrasives. Parallel micro-scratches remain on the surface, giving the knife a technical, matte appearance. Satin finishing has both aesthetic and practical significance - a smoothed blade is easier to clean, and the slightly reduced friction promotes smoother cutting. Depending on the direction and intensity of polishing, different effects are achieved - from a matte finish to an almost mirror-like finish. Satin is valued in both utility and collector's knives because it emphasizes the structure and quality of the steel while maintaining functionality.

Very nice knife, fairly well made. Works well as a handy blade. It's sharp and keeps its sharpness well, the sheath is also ok. The knife is worth recommending.

Nice knife. Depending on what kind of tasks. For everyday survival, rather not. For an adult, I would recommend something else. Additionally, I sharpened it myself.

I bought it on Black Week for 96zl, it's cool, but I wouldn't pay 120 for it.

Well factory-sharpened knife, not large in size so it doesn't take up much space, for example in a backpack. Comfortable handle and good price/quality ratio, definitely worth recommending and buying.

Sharpness out of the box is satisfactory, quality and weight are also great, very nice for small trips and for processing wood for fuel and more, I think it would do well in many tough situations.

It's a badass, more for a shelf and to look at than to use... But it looks great!
