Cold Steel Mini Recon 1 Tanto AUS-10A SW Folding Knife

The EDC (Every Day Carry) folding knife with a Tanto-profile blade is made of Japanese AUS-10A stainless steel. The blade features a hollow grind and a Stonewash finish. The black handle is made of glass-fiber-reinforced nylon (GFN) and features a non-slip texture. The blade is opened using a thumb stud on both sides, and when open, it is secured by a Tri-Ad Lock. A steel clip is provided for carrying.

AUS-10A stainless steel

The blade is made of Japanese AUS-10A steel, which is characterized by its strength and good resistance to corrosion and wear. After hardening, it reaches a hardness of 58-61 HRC.

Tanto blade finished with Stonewash method

The blade, with a Tanto profile, is 76 mm long and 3 mm thick. The blade features a hollow grind and is finished with a Stonewash treatment, which gives the surface a semi-matte appearance and hides minor scratches and marks that develop during use.

Handle made of GFN

The handle, ergonomically shaped and featuring a non-slip texture, is constructed entirely from GFN composite (Glass Filled Nylon) - a nylon material reinforced with glass fibers. This composite offers a lightweight profile, exhibits excellent resistance to moisture and numerous chemicals, and the integration of fibers enhances overall rigidity and durability against wear. A lanyard hole is located at the base of the handle.

Tri-Ad Lock

The knife is opened using a double-sided thumb stud. When open, the blade is locked in place by the Tri-Ad Lock, one of the most durable locking systems used in folding knives. The design relies on a stop pin that absorbs the forces acting on the blade and transfers them to the handle body, minimizing wear on the mechanism. The system automatically compensates for natural wear, ensuring consistent lock performance.

Steel clip

Durable steel clip enables secure carry of the knife in the tip-up orientation, easily attaching to a belt or pocket edge. Reversible clip design offers versatile mounting options on either the left or right side to suit individual user preferences.

AUS-10 feature
AUS-10
AUS-10 is a high-quality stainless steel produced by the Japanese company Aichi Steel, considered one of the best in the AUS steel series, used mainly in mid-range and high-end utility knives, produced mainly in Japan and Taiwan. The carbon content (0.95-1.1%) ensures high hardness, while chromium (13-14.5%) guarantees very good corrosion and abrasion resistance. The steel also contains manganese (up to 1%), silicon (up to 1%), phosphorus (up to 0.025%), and sulfur (up to 0.025%), which affect hardenability, impact strength, elasticity, and machinability, improving structural stability and maintaining mechanical properties. After hardening, the steel achieves a hardness of 58-61 HRC, offering an excellent balance between strength, edge retention, and ease of sharpening. It is comparable to 440C steel, differing in carbon content and the addition of vanadium, which improves structural homogeneity and increases abrasion resistance.
Tri-Ad Lock feature
Tri-Ad Lock
Tri-Ad Lock is a lock developed by Cold Steel and Andrew Demko, considered one of the strongest systems in folding knives. Its key element is a stop pin, which takes the pressure from the blade and distributes it to the handle, protecting the lock from wear and overload. The mechanism is designed to self-adjust over time, which maintains the reliability of the lock even after prolonged use. In tests, it has proven resistant to loads of up to hundreds of pounds, confirming its durability.
Stonewash feature
Stonewash
Stonewash is a blade finishing technique that involves treating steel in a drum filled with stones, ceramic abrasives, or beads. The impact of the material creates a characteristic, irregular pattern with micro-scratches, giving the effect of a matte, slightly “aged” surface with a raw, practical appearance. The finish gives the knife an aesthetic look and masks minor scratches and marks that occur during use, keeping the blade looking like new for longer. The matte texture reduces light reflections, which is valued in tactical and outdoor knives, and the micro-scratches can further reduce friction during cutting. Due to its durability, discreet appearance, and ease of maintenance, stonewash is popular in EDC, field, and tactical knives.
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon feature
GFN - Glass Filled Nylon

GFN (Glass Filled Nylon) is a nylon reinforced with glass fiber, offering low weight, high durability, and resistance to moisture and many chemicals. The material performs exceptionally well in demanding conditions, maintaining its strength even under intensive use. GFN surfaces may be completely smooth or textured to improve grip, providing better control and overall ergonomics. The robustness of GFN handles has made this material a standard in the production of EDC (Everyday Carry) knives as well as lightweight tactical designs.

Very good quality and workmanship. I think the price is a bit too high relative to the blade steel, although I am confident in the brand and the quality of the workmanship. Personally, I didn't like the ergonomics. The shape of the handle basically allows only one comfortable grip and even then it barely fits in a medium-sized hand. The flat shape certainly has a positive effect on everyday carry but here I have reservations about the handle's edges being too angular. You can round them off yourself, but for this price such a detail should already be addressed by the manufacturer. I returned the product. In summary: purchasing and returns service through Militaria is at the highest level. The product is from a good brand and made from decent materials, but it's not suitable for me due to personal preferences.

Shipping mastery.... Ordered late Friday, picked up at noon on Saturday.... The knife makes a good impression, I just received it.... At first glance well made, arrived reasonably sharp, time will tell the rest. I am satisfied, I recommend it.

Nice EDC. Tanto blade is good for boxes, tapes, etc. Although 'ugly' for some, it is the most functional in the urban jungle.

I bought it as a gift to make a good buddy feel special. He liked it and I often see it doing its job at barbecues.

The smaller version of the Recon works quite well in my urban EDC. A fairly compact model with little weight. The lock and functionality are its main advantages. Regarding the quality of workmanship, unfortunately CS has lowered its standards since the brand was sold by Thompson. In my case, there was quite a big vertical blade play, so I returned it after purchase. The next one arrived without any defects.

After a long time, I can say this: a great folder that will do everything the owner imagines.

It may sound clichéd, but this is a typical workhorse. In short - a work beast, both in the forest wilderness and in the concrete jungle. When batoning, it will cut through a small branch, and you can also cut open a package with your order. The size of the Mini Recon is perfect for a medium hand, and the tanto blade adds some Far Eastern flair. A good knife, so I recommend it.

I highly recommend this knife—appearance, practicality, sharpness, plus the recon mini is very light and great to carry in your pocket every day. Small but a beast!

Nice, small, and durable knife, ideal for EDC. Well made, the lock inspires great confidence, and straight out of the box it shaved and cut paper like a razor blade :) The downside is the lack of an extra clip in the set. The one we get with the knife is bent and can't be moved to the other side. The manufacturer decided not to include a second one, even though the handle has a place that allows you to fit it on the other side. Overall, taking everything into consideration, a knife worth recommending! 4.5/5

When it comes to knives of this size, it has one of the most comfortable handles, and I have slim hands with relatively long fingers. Sharpening the AUS10A is a breeze, and it holds its sharpness very well. The handle is supposedly made of Grivory but resembles G10. Not too rough and doesn’t tear pockets like, for example, the Voyager ;-) My new EDC. I recommend this knife!

I waited a very long time for the new edition of this model, and as soon as it appeared here, I just have to say: it's small, but really awesome!
